Job Description


Under the guidance of the Director of the Newcomb Art Museum, the Curator of Campus Collections and Public Engagement will develop a workable strategy to address the university\'s intent to provide its campus communities and the broader public greater access to its collections and visual art. Within the period of support, this curator will be responsible for working with NAM staff to:

  • Create policies and procedures for collections sharing throughout Tulane\'s campuses.
  • Serve as a liaison for Newcomb Art Museum\'s collaborations with campus departments and arts organizations.
  • Develop and implement public art programs, involving the design and integration of artwork and art programming into public sites and buildings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiarity with issues related to collections sharing across university departments.
  • Ability to prepare budgetary and financial records.
  • Strong knowledge of computer applications related to the work, including Word, Excel, OneDrive
  • Knowledge of basic public personnel, procurement, and contract administration practices.
  • Work well independently and with team members.
  • Establish exceptional organizational skills, multi-task, prioritize work and meet critical deadlines.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be highly organized and manage time effectively.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Required Background Check, Physical, and Drug Screening for Incumbents Who Have Contact or Exposure to Animals or Animal Tissues:

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.

Required Education and/or Experience
  • Master\'s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in any of the following: Arts Management, Fine Arts, Art History, and Arts Administration.
  • The equivalent of three years full-time professional experience in public arts programs, exhibition design, and/or including experience working directly with artists and/or arts organizations and the community. (Additional experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of practices and techniques of exhibit administration and report preparation.
  • Ability to manage all phases of the design, fabrication, and installation of the artwork.
  • Contemporary art and craft with specific emphasis on art of the American and Global South
