Pay begins at $52,881.38 for Cross Connection Technician and is dependent upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

Description
:
The purpose of this classification is to implement the Cross Connection Control program for the Town of Smyrna to ensure water systems are protected from contamination. Duties and responsibilities include testing, maintenance and repair of backflow prevention assemblies; protect system water quality at the service connection by isolating the actual or potential pollution or contamination that may result from backflow through cross-connections. Duties and responsibilities include inspecting water systems, flushing new and old water mains, informing customers of backflow violations, explains laws and other public service activities. Under close supervision, reports to Cross Connection Coordinator.
Implements the Cross Connection Control program and works with personnel involved in the Town of Smyrna water system to ensure that it is protected from contamination; collects water samples, properly flushes water mains, inspects plumbing systems; ensures sprinkler systems, Irrigation systems, pools and underground wells are in compliance with cross connection regulations and customer backflow device testing requirements.
Participates in the work of crews involved in reading, installing, repairing and replacing water meters, related appurtenances, blow offs and cross connection control assemblies.
Performs testing and inspecting the installation of backflow devices at residential and commercial facilities for compliance with all laws and ordinances; informs customers of backflow violations and explains laws, rules and regulations; consults and advises in the correction or elimination of cross connection hazards.
Conducts cross connection surveys on customer premises to determine locations of actual and potential cross connections; maintains records of all backflow inspections, cross connection surveys and violations; repairs Town-owned backflow prevention devices.
Conducts inspections on new construction and repairs of water and sewer mains and services to verify compliance with cross connection, backflow prevention and blow off requirements.
Participates in the Flushing Program; performs proper flushing of all dead ends.
Assists Cross Connection Coordinator in the database maintenance of licensed backflow prevention device testers.
Prepares and mails notices to customers including monthly backflow prevention device test notices, notices of delinquency to test backflow prevention devices, and water shutoff notices for failure to test backflow prevention devices; tracks, logs and files test reports returned by customers.
Tracks, logs and maintains the required regulatory records on all sites containing backflow prevention devices ensuring they are up to date, complete and ready for inspection.
Meets with, provides records, and explains the cross connection program to State and Federal regulatory inspectors on audits of the cross-connection and backflow records and operation inspections.
Maintains on-call rotation status for after-hours work.
Conducts behavior in a rofessional manner at all times to positively reflect on customer's perception of the Town.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of water distribution systems, water quality monitoring, and cross connection control, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must possess Cross Connection certification or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire date.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must have High School diploma or GED required. Must have a valid Tennessee Driver's License. Must possess a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or obtain within twelve (12) months of hire date.
Must be able to meet requirement of a 20-minute response time for emergencies in the Town.
