Description Provides lead guidance over crews in a variety of City departments. Essential Functions
Leads, trains and reviews work of crews of service workers and volunteers within the assigned areas of responsibility.
Participates in, prioritizes work, decides what equipment and materials are needed to accomplish work assignments.
Assigns work, materials, equipment, and tools to crews.
Monitors work under progress and upon completion for compliance with standards and with plans and directions.
Barricades and monitors the safety of work sites.
Explains and enforces rules and regulations that may pertain to safety, barricading, hazardous material.
Operation of handheld/power equipment.
Reads blueprints and interprets plans.
Maintains daily work records and prepares oral and written statistical reports of work done, material used, and time spent.
Operates various light, medium, heavy, and specialized equipment and performs maintenance and minor repairs on the equipment.
Operates a smart phone and/or tablet.
Works with computers and application software for maintenance and management programs.
Orders supplies, processes invoices for payment, keeps records of purchases and maintains an inventory of parts, supplies, and equipment.
Notifies the public of work projects to be performed.
Investigates and resolves customer complaints.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Parks Division:
Leads crews performing the installation, maintenance, and repair of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems at parks facilities, and in right-of-ways, including landscaping.
Acts as liaison between contractors, customers, and the City.
Must be able to understand and operate cloud based smart controllers.
Hold training classes for other Park staff to make basic repairs.
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors Three years of experience in public works, construction, maintenance and repair work, and in the operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment relative to the area of assignment. Knowledge of: Procedures, guidelines, regulations, materials, tools, equipment, and safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned area of responsibility Computers and data management systems for area of responsibility Ability to: Assign, instruct and lead the work of subordinate employees Determine what equipment, tools, manpower and materials will be needed to complete assigned projects Deal effectively with customers and the public Establish and maintain effective working relationships Operate light, medium, and heavy equipment and to perform maintenance and minor repair on equipment Use a computer Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements Depending on the area of assignment, may require possession or ability to obtain one or more of the following: Valid Arizona driver license Have certification in Smartscape or Sustainable Landscape Maintenance, advanced central irrigation (Cloud Based), Backflow maintenance or ability to attain within 6 months. May be subject to rotating shifts, standby duty and call back Applicants may be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
