JOB SUMMARY


Plans, promotes, coordinates, and evaluates Parks & Recreation Division wide inclusion services for individuals with permanent disabilities to participate in youth and adult recreation programs.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



Bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university in Therapeutic Recreation, Parks & Recreation, Adaptive or Special Education, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Must be licensed to practice Therapeutic Recreation in the state of Utah as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Masters Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (TRS or MTRS) and/or possess a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification or obtain this certification within six (6) months of hire.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check.
A valid Driver\'s License issued by the State of Utah may be required to operate a vehicle.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Create, plans, implements and evaluates program plans for patrons with disabilities participating in countywide recreation programs. Identifies the needs and feasibility of future programs.
  • Trains and instructs division-wide Parks & Rec staff on inclusion procedures.
  • Assesses a person\'s physical, cognitive, social, behavioral, emotional and leisure capabilities to make a recommendation for placement in SLCO recreation programs.
  • Identifies and recommends inclusion services which comply with Title II of the ADA and its implementing regulations.
  • Fulfills the functions of ADA/504 Liaison for the Division as described in Countywide Policy 1316. Reconcile program and patron complaints internally or pursuant to Countywide Policy 1315, ADA/Section 504 Grievance Procedure.
  • Prepares budget documentation for review and approval; monitors line item expenditures within approved budgets.
  • Recommends and/or makes purchases of program goods and services. Maintains and controls inventory.
  • Provides accurate and up-to-date program and facility information; provide monthly service level data.
  • Plans, promotes, coordinates, and supervises youth and adult recreation and leisure-time programs for individuals ranging in age from 2-21, with permanent disabilities participating in adaptive camp.
  • Creates partnerships and coordinates with other organizations and agencies to utilize joint programming opportunities.
  • Supervises staff which includes hiring, orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisal, and discipline.
  • Participates in job-related committees, sub-committees, and professional development activities.
  • Manages multiple programs at multiple locations simultaneously.
