Assist clients in understanding their legal rights. Assist clients navigating the legal system. Advocate for clients and for the agency with community partners including law enforcement, the judiciary, sister agencies and so on. Work closely with other direct service staff to ensure the program provides excellent and consistent services.
Provide legal advocacy and assistance to victims of domestic violence, accompany clients to hearings for support and advocacy as appropriate
Engage in coordination and advocacy with officials and agencies in the criminal justice system
Provide education and professional training on legal issues of domestic violence
Remain abreast of current domestic violence laws
Document all client meetings and groups, maintain client files to meet agency and funder requirements
Engage in activities to increase public awareness and education related to the issues of domestic violence and homelessness
Be a champion for the agency, clients and staff at all times
Maintain compliance with all agency policies and procedures
Attend all meetings and complete all forms and reports required by direct supervisor, funders, CEO or the Board
Carry out other duties as assigned or as necessary to ensure organizational success
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Minimum of two years of experience in social services. Experience providing advocacy and supportive services for victims of domestic violence. Experience with case management. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong debate skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with clients, staff and community partners
Excellent organizational and leadership skills
Computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary service
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices
Fluency in a language in addition to English is preferred
Completion of the 40-hour domestic violence training as required by the Illinois Domestic Violence Act (IDVA) from an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP) approved training site. This training will be provided by Courage Connection to new employees who have not yet completed the training
High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor's Degree preferred

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards and agency policies
Must be able to listen and speak clearly on the telephone
