Job Duties:

  • The Spartanburg County Deputy Director provides direct supervision to Child Welfare Program Coordinators. Ensures accountability of program coordinators by conducting case consultations, coaching, trainings, and support in accordance with DSS Policy, Agency Mission and GPS Practice Model. Assists the County Director with the development of plans and strategies to improve performance and practice in Child Welfare.
  • Assists the County Director in leading staff and administering Human Services Programs (child welfare services, adult protective services and economic service) by promoting adherence to DSS policies and procedures, agency mission, and GPS Practice Model. Performs on-call duties to support Child Welfare staff.
  • Authentically engages child welfare services staff, adult protective services staff, economic services staff, families and other professionals with empathy, respect and leadership.
  • Partners with community stakeholders to identify services to meet the needs of the children and families.
  • Effectively communicates and educates families, stakeholders and the community on DSS mission, procedures and practices.
  • Promotes fidelity to policy and procedures by facilitating monthly meetings with direct reports, reviewing data reports, monitoring policy changes, ensuring staff attendance in mandatory trainings, and conducting periodic case reviews to ensure quality practice.
  • Assists the County Director with the facilitation of staff meetings to include, all staff meeting, county leadership meetings, and weekly huddles that focus on performance measures and data trends. Assists the County Director in the development of plans and strategies to improve performance and practice to include coaching and coordinating trainings.
  • Promotes timely permanency by assisting Program Coordinators and County Attorneys with identifying and addressing legal barriers that impact timely permanency and legal proceedings.
  • Responds timely and professionally to constituent inquiries from the public and families to problem solve and bring resolution to inquiries.
  • Provides Child Welfare Program Coordinators with EPMS planning and evaluation; coaches Program Coordinators in areas for growth and improvement to ensure supervisor is successful in understanding and caring out job task, assist Program Coordinators and County director in addressing under performance issues with staff, and participates in hiring and training of all new employees.
  • Maintains Child Welfare certification, completes at minimum 20 training hours yearly. Maintains an active routine of self-care and pursues support when necessary to minimize the threat of secondary trauma to physical and mental health. Applies trauma informed principles when work with Child Welfare staff and families.
  • Will be required to perform Red Cross shelter/emergency response duties as directed.
Agency Requirements:
A bachelor\'s degree and four (4) years of experience in any combination of social work, management, business administration, administrative services or public administration.

A master\'s degree and three (3) years of experience in any combination of social work, management, business administration, administrative services or public administration.

Selected position may require supervisory experience.
