Job Responsibilities

With our Agency\'s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located with the SC Department of Mental Health, Beckman Center for Mental Health Services. Position will be responsible for providing services throughout the Center\'s seven county catchment area (Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda Counties).

Under supervision of the Mobile Crisis Supervisor, works as a member of the Mobile Crisis team and provides peer support services to individuals in the community. Serves as a role model of recovery. Promotes recovery and community crisis stabilization in community settings. Provides post-crisis follow up for individuals who received services from Mobile Crisis. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as a co-responder on the Mobile Crisis team and provides support to individuals during assessment, assists in engaging the individual in crisis in the least restrictive services to meet their needs to avoid unnecessary hospitalization and arrest.
  • Provides post-crisis follow-up contacts with individuals/families receiving Mobile Crisis services to ensure engagement in treatment services during their shift and under the support of the MC Supervisor.
  • Provides crisis preventative services through outreach and recovery support to individuals identified as high risk by local mental health center.
  • Promotes community engagement with community supports for high-risk individuals to address psychosocial needs.
  • Completes all DMH required trainings and those required to obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

State: High school diploma & relevant human services or social services experience. Bachelor\'s degree may be substituted for the required experience.

Agency: Current/former consumer of mental health services. Must possess valid SC Driver\'s License. If not certified as a SC Peer Support Specialist, must attend mandatory training and complete certification requirements. Will be required to maintain SC Peer Support Certification. Must have good computer skills and ability to work set schedule determined by the Center. Knowledge of recovery. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
