Primary Responsibilities

HDR is looking for a Control Systems Engineer to support our national Control Systems practice which includes full-service capabilities and supports clients in multiple industries and market sectors providing control system assessment, planning, design, automation programming/configuration, testing & commissioning, and maintenance.

The primary role of this position is to support the planning, design, and implementation of automated process control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in coordination with clients and multidiscipline teams to develop solutions for construction and implementation in multiple market sectors including tech, media & telecom; oil & gas; food & beverage, logistics, manufacturing; mining; industrial; transportation; and water/wastewater.

In this role, the Control Systems Engineer will serve as Engineer of Record or will work under the direction of a Senior Control Systems Engineer to design complex building/process control and SCADA systems, assisting with the evaluation and selection of equipment and system components. They will be responsible for creating biddable and technically accurate construction documents including drawings and specifications. They must be self-motivated with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically excellent SCADA/I&C designs.

Responsibilities/Duties include:

\xc2\xb7 Lead the I&C design and/or coordinate work with the electrical/I&C design team on small to larger water/wastewater and industrial facility projects from preliminary design through construction phase services.

\xc2\xb7 Meet with clients, owners, operators, and governing agencies to determine I&C requirements.

\xc2\xb7 Perform complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.

\xc2\xb7 Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to complete documents on schedule.

\xc2\xb7 Conduct systems integration of the I&C system, including programming of PLCs/PCs and HMI customizing for various control software programs.

\xc2\xb7 Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.

\xc2\xb7 Write and edit I&C specifications and select equipment and monitoring/control devices.

\xc2\xb7 Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents.

\xc2\xb7 Make decisions on significant design and engineering procedures as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Manager on mid-size projects as needed, but project management is not the sole focus of this position.

\xc2\xb7 Supervise a small staff of professionals and technicians as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Provide construction contract administration as needed.

\xc2\xb7 Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

\xc2\xb7 Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls related field.

\xc2\xb7 PE required.

\xc2\xb7 A minimum of 5 years applicable experience

\xc2\xb7 Hands on experience designing I&C systems, including schematics and loops required.

\xc2\xb7 Network design experience for Industrial Control or SCADA or OT systems.

\xc2\xb7 Must be knowledgeable of remote site telemetry communications.

\xc2\xb7 Must be knowledgeable of cybersecurity considerations for Industrial Control or SCADA or OT systems.

\xc2\xb7 Must be knowledgeable of network, PLC, DCS, or DDC hardware/software, and SCADA/HMI software used in Building, Industrial, or Water/Wastewater applications.

\xc2\xb7 An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

\xc2\xb7 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) / Distributed Control System (DCS) / Direct Digital Control (DDC) programming or SCADA HMI configuration experience a plus

\xc2\xb7 Experience in building automation, data centers, food & beverage, oil & gas, industrial, mining, manufacturing, or logistics a plus.

\xc2\xb7 Familiar with industrial processes, motor control, and power distributions systems.

  • Preference given to local candidates.
