JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Communications Director Current Employee: TBD Team: Development & Marketing Location: RMHC \xe2\x80\x93 Salt Lake City Reports to: Chief Development & Engagement Officer (CDEO) Supervises: Graphic Design Specialist and Data Entry Specialist Classification: Salaried, full-time, exempt Compensation: Pay Grade 150 THE POSITION: The Communications Director effectively communicates the mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of the Intermountain Area to earn support to further its mission impact. The Director creates and implements marketing campaigns, and strategic messaging on behalf of RMHC through all available communications channels. The Communications Director manages the donor database (Salesforce) and event and development databases and utilizes data analytics to develop effective marketing and communications strategies. The position manages RMHC\xe2\x80\x99s donor database reporting, data validation and integrity. The position is responsible for organizational communications through social media, digital communications, website, public relations, design, print, and traditional marketing. This position works across departments to help achieve organizational strategic milestones and works with other staff and volunteers to support a variety of initiatives and campaigns. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Communications, Marketing & Public Relations
  • Create an effective communications, marketing and public relations strategic plan with annual tactics and strategies, informed by RMHC\xe2\x80\x99s strategic vision.
  • Oversee organizational communications and public relations to build on the exemplary RMHC brand reputation of excellence, accountability, and mission impact.
  • Write, review and edit organizational communications to ensure accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ensure that marketing through printed and digital platforms (ex. Printed materials, letters, invitations, etc.) include reviews for accuracy, spelling, grammar, etc.
  • Oversee the production of annual reports and marketing collateral.
  • Work with Director of Development to create toolkits and annual appeals including content, tracking, and data analysis.
  • Help plan, support and attend RMHC sponsored events as well as other selected activities conducted for the benefit of RMHC.
  • Maintain an updated media list and cultivate media contacts. Write and distribute press releases and public service announcements for broadcast.
  • Create communications, marketing and programming for annual gala (in person and on KUTV) including the management of promos, scripts, and video production needs.
  • Serve as central point of contact for media inquiries and coordinate guest interviews with television and radio stations.
  • Oversee delivery of consistent messages and proper usage of RMHC trademarks
  • Lead RMHC\xe2\x80\x99s Marketing Committee
  • Serve as point of contact for Marketing partner \xe2\x80\x93 currently EKR in all paid media campaigns.
  • Maximize direct and indirect communications and marketing through newsletters, fundraising events, wish lists, volunteer opportunities, and other philanthropic efforts.
Website and Social Media
  • Develop social media communications strategy to grow support by maximizing use across appropriate social media channels including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn.
  • Establish a high level of proficiency in digital communications and social media (website, electronic newsletters, e-blasts, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs, etc.)
  • Create and execute digital communications and social media plan with timelines and key success metrics.
  • Manage and regularly update/post to RMHC\xe2\x80\x99s website and social media including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Engage the full RMHC team to provide updated information for RMHC\xe2\x80\x99s website and current content for social media maintaining shared voice and message alignment.
  • Train and encourage staff and board on social media participation.
  • Update and distribute digital communications via e-blasts and e-newsletters.
  • Oversee and update website regularly.
  • Carryout digital campaigns to meet or exceed established goals.
  • Coordinate with development team to implement strategic initiatives in communication and social media.
  • Seek out and participate in ongoing training opportunities to establish best practices.
  • Keep log of social media metrics to include baseline, benchmark and actual statistics.
  • Represent RMHC in a positive manner with all committee members, volunteers and in the community.
Donor Database, Reporting, and Analytics
  • Maintain a high level of proficiency in all donor databases utilized by RMHC (Salesforce, auction platforms, visitor management and other giving platforms)
  • Coordinate training, gift entry and active utilization of RMHC donor databases with other key staff members.
  • Ensure quality, organizational integration, and utilization of donor databases to help achieve development and stewardship goals.
  • Research donor intent and gift details as required to help ensure accurate and meaningful gift recognition.
  • Work closely with development team to identify opportunities to better utilize donor software (campaign and dashboards), and errors and omissions in organizational systems and donor databases and take action to make corrections as appropriate.
  • Provide logistical support for donor stewardship, development mailings, fundraising, annual appeals and campaigns.
  • Manage mailings including, but not limited to creating mailing lists, merge/de-dupe, print envelopes/labels, stuff, stamp, etc.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for direct mail vendors.
  • Create appropriate tracking mechanisms to establish ROI on major appeals and mailings, including the end of year holiday campaign.
  • Use Stewardship Key Donor Segment Plan (Foundation, Corporation, and Individual) to develop queries, reports, actions, and touch points.
  • Gather information (giving history, why, how, when, etc.) and provide periodic reports to inform stewardship and development strategy and tactics.
  • Ensure that accurate donor records are kept, create and generate donor analysis for donor retention and effective campaigns that earn new donors (acquisition).
  • Generate reminders for action items for donor solicitors.
  • Work with Chief Stewardship, Campaign and Planned Giving Officer to personalize communications with key donors.
  • Manage annual mailing calendar and coordinate to avoid multiple mailings at the same time and generic mailings and be aware of donor preferences.
  • Manage the Development Database Specialist
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Fills in for vacations and/or holidays, as needed.
  • Assists development team and CDEO on all projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by CDEO. Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages and mentors Graphic Design & Content Specialist
  • Manages and mentors Development Database Specialist
Work Environment:
  • Most work is conducted in an office or home environment. Some of the job duties in this position may be done through remote work, though a regular onsite presence is the expectation for mission and staff connection. Attendance at events may be indoors or outdoors, possibly in inclement weather. In conjunction with certain events, employees may be required to lift packages and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
THE PERSON: Experience Required:
  • 2+ years of increasing responsibility in communications, social media and marketing
  • Knowledge, experience and proficiency in donor databases and donor analytics
  • Proven ability to create content and campaigns.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects Skills Required:
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including email, Microsoft Office Suite, donor database software \xe2\x80\x93 Salesforce preferred, and social media software/apps.
  • Skills in Adobe Creative Suite and Wordpress are valued
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically and to problem-solve.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, both independently and as a team member.
  • Creative and artistic use of resources within a limited budget.
  • Flexibility with regards to work assignments and changing priorities.
  • Ability to see change as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree preferred or equivalent experience required.
