Job Summary
This position will support the communications needs of Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) by providing counsel and project execution for internal clients as well as supervise the day-to-day work and long-term strategic communications planning and implementation for MDVA earned media (media relations), paid media (advertising) and social media. The incumbent will lead proactive media outreach, media buying activities, strategic use of social media, and help coordinate the efforts of the MDVA Communications Team and other MDVA staff in these areas. Responsibilities will include oversight of the news release editing and vetting process, managing the relationship with the MDVA ad agency/vendor, and planning and coordination of social media. This position will serve as the back up to Communication Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must clearly demonstrate all of the following qualifications in their resume:
Four (4) years of professional-level communications and public relations experience that demonstrates the following:
Developing and implementing strategic communications plans including media relations, social media and advertising
Creating and publishing communications tactics such as key messages, talking points, news releases, e-mails, newsletter articles, social posts and website content
Advising and supporting leaders in preparation of scripts, speeches, presentations and press conferences
Copy writing and editing skills sufficient to create digital, print, broadcast or outdoor advertisements
And
Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker or project lead
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
Knowledge of paid media/advertising buying and placement in multiple media outlets and channels
Knowledge of posting to and strategic use of various social media channels including proficiency in use of social media scheduling apps
