Job Description


The Tulane Center for Sport provides comprehensive clinical care to former military personnel and former professional athletes via the Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) and the Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) Clinic. The Tulane University Center for Brain Health (TUCBH) is a clinical care and research center for Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Physiological conditions, and Behavioral Health (BH) conditions such as post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. The primary focus of the TUCBH is to care for former military personnel who have separated from active duty. The Professional Athlete Care Team (PACT) is a unique care model specifically designed to meet needs of former professional athletes. The PACT Clinic provides athletes with facilitated access to comprehensive evaluation and treatment plans.

The Clinical Therapist will work within a comprehensive interdisciplinary medical team to assess patient care needs. The position will provide behavioral health (BH) assessments to identify patients\' level of psychological function and treatment planning needs. The therapist will provide education and trauma counseling addressing a wide range of behavioral and social needs of patients.

Duties include: patient assessment, treatment planning and coordination, counseling, and ongoing program monitoring and development. Follow-up with appropriate services locally and nationally is required. The position must interface successfully with University resources, such as the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine, Tulane Athletics, and other academic departments. As well as contracted entities that include, the NFLPA Trust, and other entities as needed to address the needs of the athletes and their families. The successful candidate must utilize the appropriate digital tools for communication and data analysis to support patient care, to enhance interoffice and intra-office communications, and to maintain confidentiality and the requirements of HIPAA.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Clinical skill in conducting brief and targeted assessments to provide psychotherapy interventions, health and behavior change, substance use treatment, and triage for appropriate level of care.
  • Experience working with athletes, anxiety, and depression.
  • Evidenced supported clinical trauma resolution techniques, ex EMDR, PE, CPT, sensorimotor psychotherapy.
  • Specialty in marriage and family therapy.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Ability to search and critically review best evidence to guide clinical decision making and effectively share knowledge with colleagues as well as communicate relevant findings in appropriate language to the general public.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize with minimal direction and maintain a well-organized work environment,
  • Ability to problem-solve, use good judgement, and deal with diverse and difficult personalities.
  • Ability to work under moderate to high measures of stress.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including the ability to work with a variety of applications.
Required Education and/or Experience
  • Master\'s Degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or Counseling OR Doctorate in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, or Education
  • Louisiana licensure in their discipline or ability to obtain licensure
  • Three years direct experience with mild to moderate Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Three years direct experience in evidence-supported clinical trauma resolution techniques such as EMDR, PE, CPT, or Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with professional athletes.
  • Experience working with individuals with addiction, substance use/abuse, sleep problems and/or chronic pain.
  • Experience in clinical program development.
