TITLE: Charles Jordan Memorial Intern \xe2\x80\x93 Job Analysis Project

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Operations/Human Resources

REPORTS TO: Human Resources Manager

LOCATION: Based in the Fund\xe2\x80\x99s Arlington, VA office

Position Description

The Charles Jordan Memorial Internship was established by The Conservation Fund to keep alive the passion, commitment, and wisdom that Charles Jordan brought to his 20 years of leadership on the Fund\xe2\x80\x99s national Board of Directors. The internship is available through 2023; the specific timeframe and work schedulefor the position are flexible.

Charles was the first African American to chair a national environmental organization, serving as chairman of The Conservation Fund\xe2\x80\x99s Board of Directors from 2003 to 2008. He believed passionately in diversifying the conservation movement. The principles of equity, diversity and inclusion were central to who he was and all he did. In keeping with Charles Jordan\xe2\x80\x99s vision, the goals of this internship are to:

  • Honor and implement Charles Jordan\xe2\x80\x99s leadership and vision for an equitable, diverse, and inclusive national conservation movement;
  • Provide a career-oriented learning experience for a student who has the passion, creativity and skills to implement Charles\xe2\x80\x99 vision; and
  • Grow the next generation of conservation leaders through the internship experience and test and communicate new approaches that advance Charles\xe2\x80\x99 legacy.
POSITION SUMMARY

The intern will work with the HR team to inventory and standardize the Fund\xe2\x80\x99s job descriptions. The intern will review categorizeall TCF job descriptions created since 2020 and work with the HR team and managers across the organization to update outdated job descriptions \xe2\x80\x93 and create new ones as needed \xe2\x80\x93 that reflect equity across required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salary ranges for positions.

The intern may choose to work full- or part-time (minimum of 20 hours/week up to maximum of 37.5 hours/week) from July, 2023 through December, 2023, up to a maximum of 375 hours in total

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Document the required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salaries in the current (ie, created in 2020 or more recently) job descriptions (JDs) of active employees.
  • Work with the HR team to establish job levels or \xe2\x80\x9cbands\xe2\x80\x9d and sort the required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salaries (or salary ranges, in the case of open positions) into those bands to ensure that similarly-banded positions list similar/equitable required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salaries.
  • Work with managers and the HR team to create/update JDs for employees whose job descriptions have not been updated since prior to 2020 \xe2\x80\x93 and for positions that are currently open \xe2\x80\x93 ensuring that similarly-banded positions list similar/equitable required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salaries.
  • Final inventory of deliverables: Job descriptions for all active employees and open positions that list similar/equitable required qualifications, preferred qualifications and salary ranges for similarly-banded positions plus a summary report of the project
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently pursuing a degree in human resources, organizational psychology, business or related field, or one year of experience in a human resources position.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of job analyses and job description creation.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to break down complex concepts.
  • Good observation skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of The Conservation Fund.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree in human resources or related field.
  • Experience conducting job analyses.
  • Experience creating, supporting the creation of and/or editing job descriptions.
  • Experience interviewing managers to ascertain job requirements.
  • Experience interviewing job candidates.
  • Experience working or volunteering at a non-profit organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed primarily in an office.

This position pays $20/hour.
