Job Description


This position will serve as the 4-H Camp Shankitunk Facilities Coordinator for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County and under the general supervision of the Camp Administrator, the Facilities Coordinator has the primary responsibility for cleaning and maintaining the grounds and physical facilities at 4-H Camp Shankitunk, which is owned and operated by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County. This position will provide support to the Camp Administrator to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers, participants, and the public. It is the role of this position to follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and maintenance schedules for 4-H Camp Shankitunk including, but not limited to: grounds, office areas, kitchen and dining hall, bunk houses, bath houses, classrooms, storage areas, entrances, etc. The Facilities Coordinator is also responsible for mowing; snow removal; repairs; minor carpentry and construction projects; maintenance of equipment; set-up and breakdown for meetings and/or events; and coordinating facility needs with the Camp Administrator and/or designated staff. The Facilities Coordinator is also responsible for assisting the Camp Administrator in maintaining facilities and the water system while camp is open in order to meet New York State Department of Health (DOH) requirements. This position will be responsible, under the direct supervision and oversight of the Camp Administrator, for assisting with the guidance and supervision for seasonal or other temporary maintenance staff, as needed. This position will act as a liaison with renters if they need anything during their rental and will be on-call for maintenance issues for weekend renters.

Required Qualifications

Associate Degree or Equivalent Education (High School diploma/GED + 1 year transferrable program/functional experience)

Experience relevant to the role of the position.

Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.

Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.

Valid NYS Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.

Ability to operate a lawn mower, snow blower, tractor and related equipment.

Knowledge of cleaning, maintenance, and repair methods, materials, and techniques applicable to public buildings. Demonstrated ability to provide cleaning, maintenance, and repair work.

Ability to identify and address safety concerns in the work place.

Ability to work cooperatively with commercial contractors and repair services as needed.

Physical ability to do heavy lifting, shovel snow, and carry supplies and equipment.

Ability to climb and perform work from a ladder.

Basic computer skills.

Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and assume responsibility with general guidelines and direction.

Ability to plan and organize work responsibilities according to priorities developed with the immediate supervisor.

Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.

Ability to communicate with supervisor and staff as pertains to the duties of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Reliability and competence with building mechanicals, carpentry, electrical and plumbing operations.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Administrative Direction \xe2\x80\x93 5%

Assist with developing and maintaining written plans and records for facility, equipment, and grounds, including but not limited to maintenance records, seasonal work plans, fire extinguisher and heating system annual maintenance, winterization of buildings and equipment.

Assist with developing building and equipment maintenance schedules.

Assist with creation and maintenance of emergency preparedness plans.

Administrative Management \xe2\x80\x93 10%

Provides guidance and oversight of the duties/tasks of the Summer Maintenance Assistant for the 4-H Camp Shankitunk if applicable.

Manage building and equipment maintenance schedules.

Administrative Coordination/Operation \xe2\x80\x93 80%

General:

Facilitate routine ordering of cleaning supplies, building materials, maintenance items, etc. to ensure adequate supplies and materials are available to conduct grounds keeping and custodial tasks.

Collaborate with the Camp Administrator to keep an inventory of all supplies and equipment.

Comply with established health and safety regulations and guidelines including OSHA/PESHA regulations, including use of required safety equipment and PPE.

Comply with water system testing requirements to meet New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulations.

Safely operate all vehicles and other job related equipment.

Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.

Record use and storage of all chemicals and cleaners utilized in MSDS record book as required.

In collaboration with supervisor, maintain all equipment operating manuals and maintenance records.

Interact with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.

Collaborate with supervisor to schedule contractors, volunteers, or other resources to address facility, maintenance, and storage needs.

Work collaboratively with Supervisor and Volunteer Groups to complete necessary and required maintenance tasks, as needed.

Grounds and Building Maintenance:

Clean and maintain all public areas, restrooms, meeting rooms, and offices; removing all garbage, trash, and recyclables; cleaning and maintaining appliances and equipment such as refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters, furnaces, lawn mowers, tractors, floor scrubbers, etc.

Set up and tear down meeting facilities.

Assist with arranging for / performing deliveries and errands.

Provide general maintenance and repairs, such as minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, roofing, flooring, and painting as required. Alert Camp Administrator of problems or repairs needed.

Remove snow and ice from walks, roofs, driveways, and parking lot as needed.

Maintains lawn and landscaping as needed.

Collaborate with Supervisor and staff to ensure the buildings and grounds are prepared for educational programming

Rentals & Storage:

Consult Rental/Sign-out Calendar daily for information regarding buildings and grounds use.

Make arrangements for buildings to be opened and closed as per rental/storage needs and schedule.

Serve as the contact for buildings and grounds issues and emergencies outside typical office hours. Notify the Camp Administrator of all issues and emergencies outside typical office hours.

Check facilities after use by renters and report any damage to Camp Administrator.

Set up chairs, tables, or any other equipment as specified.

Professional Improvement \xe2\x80\x93 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

Participate in all required orientation, training, and/or in-service meetings and trainings as scheduled/required.

Pursue personal growth through expanding personal knowledge of the total organization and through updating techniques and technical skills relating to the position.

Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at camp staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Cooperative Extension programs and other duties as assigned.

Position Details

This is a part-time (20 hrs/week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $16.00 - $20.00/hr. commensurate with experience & qualifications. The Camp Facilities Coordinator will primarily work on-site at 4-H Camp Shankitunk.
