Job Description


Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross\' Nevada operations.

Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.



Under the direction of the Purchasing Superintendent, Buyers are the authorized agent of the company and have legal authority to act for the company in commercial matters. The incumbent will act on behalf of Kinross Nevada when negotiating with suppliers for the procurement, transport, taxation and payment for goods and services needed by company operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to comply with Kinross Supply Chain policies.
  • Knowledge of the AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) process as it relates to capital expenditures.
  • Consistently exercise discretion and judgment in job performance.
  • Perform market analysis to allow competitive bidding is performed for proposals that ensure the company is obtaining pricing and cost that are representative of an open market.
  • Maintain confidentiality pertaining to the bidding and procurement process.
  • Initiate and manage the competitive bid process in compliance with Kinross Supply Chain Policy.
  • Manage documentation of the justification process to award high level procurement.
  • Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis, and recommend favorable bidder.
  • Recognize when to create service contracts.
  • Create purchase orders utilizing the existing materials management system that are compliant with Kinross Supply Chain Policy.
  • Provide commercial information to Project Managers of any critical issues within assigned goods and services.
  • Process requests for shipping documents for all materials leaving mine site.
  • Negotiate transportation and FOB terms that are appropriate for material to ensure minimal risk.
  • Expand bidders list by sourcing new suppliers
  • Participate in special procurement projects initiated by maintenance and operations departments.
  • Attend assigned departmental meetings as required.
  • Comply with \xe2\x80\x9cOn-Call weekend schedule.
  • Expedite and track orders that are past due and update MRP system with current delivery dates.
  • Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management including working as team to accomplish department goals and objectives.
  • Works without risk or harm to self and others.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance required.
  • Develop other department personnel to perform duties related to the Procure to pay process.
  • Performs other related functions as assigned.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • 3-5 years procurement experience required.
  • 2-3 years experience in contract management required.
  • Previous accounting experience preferred
  • Good understanding of mining, milling and maintenance operations.
  • Ability to analyze bid results and make knowledgeable decisions when making awards that are based on overall cost to business.
  • Must understand and know how to operate computerized purchasing and materials management systems and standard office equipment.
  • Good time management skills and ability to effectively prioritize work is essential.
  • Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing email, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of suppliers, employees and management.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a member of the management team.
  • Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
  • Requires valid driver\'s license.
