Position Title: Operations Manager

Classification: Regular, Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Branch Manager

Supervises: Warehouse and Counter Sales Support Positions

Primary Function
The Operations Manager is responsible for the management of the warehouse and administrative functions, the key financial measurements of the branch, and for assuring that such activities are conducted in accordance with the policies and practices of Springfield Electric and in a manner that achieves customer satisfaction and maximizes branch productivity and profitability. The Operations Manager is also responsible for evaluating and identifying process improvements to enhance the overall operation of the branch. This position is based in our Lexington Branch.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Directs and coordinates warehouse and administrative functions to assure that they efficiently and effectively provide services required in a manner that promotes quality customer service.
  • Achieves business objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Manages the movement of products into and out of inventory. Approves all modifications to inventory. Coordinates inventory audit process.
  • Oversees the coordination of inventory preparation and warehouse cleanliness in conjunction with the warehouse manager.
  • Coordinates cycle inventory counts with RF system.
  • Coordinates vendor returns.
  • Coordinates product displays and promotional materials in the counter sales area.
  • Reviews financial statements, sales and activity reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Assists with the management and controls of branch expenses in accordance with the established budgetary guidelines and in coordination with the branch manager; includes the processing of invoices for services rendered.
  • Oversees branch debit memo process, assists in expediting past due vendor debits in coordination with the Corporate Accounting Department.
  • Oversees cash and credit card transactions and assures transactions are reconciled in accordance with operational guidelines.
  • Reviews and approves all customer credits for the branch.
  • Oversees branch pricing contracts; monitors related approvals and deletions.
  • Oversees branch CSG program compliance; completes and files related CSG paperwork and manages related audits.
  • Evaluates and monitors staffing requirements in accordance with budgetary guidelines and controls including payroll expenditures related to overtime.
  • Develops direct staff through training and performance management initiatives.
  • Participates in recruitment and selection processes as necessary.
  • Responsible for overall branch facility security and building management. Coordinates facility maintenance and repair activity as necessary.
  • Assists with the coordination of branch safety related activities.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the branch marketing strategy including product and business promotions, advertising programs, and trade shows in coordination with the Branch Manager and Corporate Marketing Director. Appropriately communicates such plans, promotions and product updates with branch associates.
Other Responsibilities
  • Maintains a high level of product knowledge.
  • Participates in meetings and training sessions as needed.
  • Provides back-up for Counter Sales, warehouse and administrative associates as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to successfully complete the job.
Necessary Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in business or related field or equivalent on the job experience as determined by Springfield Electric.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in business or operations management including the application of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, forecasting, human resources, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources, preferably in the electrical distribution industry.
  • Demonstrated customer and vendor relationship building and maintenance skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to plan and schedule the work of others.
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills, including the ability to plan and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proven proficiency in general personal computer application, as well as in the use of Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge or experience with Richards Electric operating system.
  • Experience with an ERP system such as Eclipse.
  • Experience or knowledge with RF systems.
Physical Ability Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, climb, push, pull and maneuver at heights and in tight or small places.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs and a ladder and step stool.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 40 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 40 lbs.
