Summary
Attends court sessions and provides essential security functions to maintain order and ensure the personal safety and security of judicial personnel. Responsible for the control and movement of the juries.
Example of Duties
inspects the courtroom, jury rooms, and chambers area for daily sessions. Conducts thorough security inspection, posts court calendar or names of cases on reader board, and coordinates and screens all individuals and activity in the court area. Locks and secures areas when court is not in session to assure security.

Opens court, announcing entrance of Judge. Remains in court session to provide security for judicial personnel, jury, and witnesses and to control defendants or other persons in the courtroom. Intervenes and handles any disturbances, emergencies, or special requests of the Judge. Also transfers documents to the bench, jurors and counsel.

Coordinates all security efforts with other agencies involved in the courtroom to assure the segregation of hostile groups during prisoner movements.

Provides for jury security and sequestration. Assists in initial juror indoctrination, site viewing/transportation, deliberation and possible emergency evacuation. Escorts jurors throughout the trial process and serves as liaison for the Judge, jurors and counsel. Handles juror requests within scope of authority, including monitoring telephone calls and all other outside contact of jurors.

Performs housekeeping duties to prepare and maintain the courtroom and jury rooms for daily proceedings. Includes setting up beverages, files, writing supplies, taping equipment, and assuring availability of any other materials or equipment required for the court session. Cleans the area at the end of the day.

Responds to inquiries from the public and jury members, providing information within the scope of authority. Responsible for the notification of the media when a jury verdict is reached.

Performs a variety of routine clerical work such as filling out, sorting and distributing miscellaneous court forms, assembling jury information books, filing, and receiving incoming phone calls.

May perform additional support function such as procuring court supplies, maintaining furniture inventory, or assisting in keeping the law library in order.

Provides courier services for the court, picking up and carrying mail and court files between courthouses.

Performs miscellaneous duties for superior court judges as required, such as: locating and retrieving references, files, and information, contacting defendants, and making copies.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma, or G.E.D., special security, police, military, or criminal training, and one year of work experience in a related legal setting; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge and ability required to perform the job.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Driver\'s License.

Concealed Weapon Permit.

First Aid Certificate.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of proper courtroom proceedings.

Ability to anticipate any courtroom disturbances and respond accordingly.

Physical ability to secure the court, being alert to persons or actions that may be injurious to those in attendance.

Ability to communicate effectively in response to case at hand without offending individual or violating court rules and instructions.
