The Associate Director, Psychology Media and Assessment leads a team of media and assessment editors for Psychology at Macmillan Learning. The associate director is accountable for leading a team in developing digital learning experiences with high-quality content, and driving innovation, through close collaboration with editorial teams and media production. The associate director will work closely with learning resource development and program management to create resources that answer customer problems and enable engagement and learning for all students. In this leadership role, the associate director is responsible for team development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, creativity, and collaboration.

This role manages other employees

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the Psychology media and assessment editorial team, including guiding team members on best practices, training, career development, and prioritization of workloads.
  • Develop and implement best practices for continuous improvement of digital course content based on testing plans, customer feedback, product data, and competitive landscape.
  • Strategize and help implement quality, comprehensive assessment plans for the Psychology list by course area and individual titles to create effective, inclusive, and innovative assessment content.
  • Collaborate with project teams on digital course design and direct media authors to create content accordingly.
  • Identify, vet, and develop productive relationships with vendors who provide content creation services including assessment, interactives, video, animation, and audio.
Understand and communicate clearly about the interdependencies of digital content and digital functionality. * Support team in revising current workflows for efficiency and quality improvements by understanding the production processes that support content creation and course builds.
  • Promote the implementation of Macmillan\xe2\x80\x99s standards and guidelines on creating accessible, diverse, equitable, and inclusive content to ensure all learners can access new and legacy material.
  • Understand, share, and guide the media editorial team in collaborating with Product and Learning Science.
  • Provide accurate media budgets in title P&Ls for Psychology list and manage team to stay on budget throughout the development process.
  • Work directly with customers, marketing, and sales to support media products.
  • Participate in internal and external events to promote products, gather market information, and meet with potential and current authors and reviewers.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in educational publishing; educational content creation; and/or creative roles within edtech.
  • Experience working with digital educational content either as a content creator, editor, instructional designer, or learning experience designer.
  • At least 2 years managing a team of two or more direct reports.
  • Adaptable to change, and quick to internalize technology, systems, and practices relevant to the role.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Ability to quickly learn authoring/assessment tools and content management systems.
  • Close attention to detail and a strong interest in identifying and solving problems.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to form productive working relationships with authors, vendors, and in-house teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMP certification, certificate or graduate work in educational technology, instructional design, or learning science is a plus.
  • Background in psychology, education, or instructional design.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps; JIRA, Smartsheet, and Articulate360.
Salary Range: $94,000 - $110,000/year

Exemption Status: Exempt

Physical Requirements:

Position requires periods of close concentration and the ability to multi-task in an open office, noisy/busy environment. Must be able to travel occasionally, and work more than 40 hours a week as needed.

This position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming. Preference given to candidates in Austin, TX; New York, NY; Boston, MA in a hybrid capacity.
