ABOUT THE M.A. DEGREE PROGRAM

CIIS has developed one of the first accredited graduate degree programs in Integrative Health Studies in the U.S. A two-year, nonclinical master\'s degree program that prepares graduates to enter the innovative field of integrative health, the Integrative Health Studies program blends insights from scientific biomedicine with time-honored perspectives on mind-body-spirit wholeness, traditional healing, and holistic, complementary and integrative health modalities. The 36-credit M.A. degree program is delivered online over two years (fall and spring semesters only). There is a 4-day residential academic intensive at the onset of each semester. The mission of the IHL program is to educate individuals to serve as integrative health coaches by providing holistic, culturally sensitive services and wellness management programs to diverse populations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This position includes responsibilities for teaching 9 units per year of graduate-level courses in Integrative Health Studies (or equivalent workload for special projects), advising students, university and department service, committee work, and professional contributions as needed. Core faculty are required to demonstrate professional growth in scholarship, publishing, research, grants, awards, and teaching/mentoring. It also includes marketing the program through informative meetings and presentations to schools, conferences, and public workshops as needed. All faculty attend the academic intensives and collaborate on program objectives, reviews, and assessments. This full-time (1 FTE) core faculty position requires experience in teaching integrative health, wellness coaching, and nutrition or related areas (e.g., behavioral health, psychology). Familiarity with health coaching is required. Ideal candidates will have earned or be prepared to work towards National Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) certification.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate in health education, public health or clinical health degree or related field from regionally accredited university.
  • Teaching experience at college level at regionally accredited institute of higher education.
  • Experience in designing and implementing wellness programs for individuals, universities, hospitals, clinics, organizations and/or communities.
  • Experience in health coaching, lifestyle medicine or behavioral health.
  • Experience in curriculum design and developing assessments in alignment with strategic missions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with or managing an integrative team of health professionals.
  • Experience in cultures other than your own and developing courses with learning outcomes that address diversity, equity, and social justice issues, especially culturally sensitive health care and health disparities.
  • Academic and/or research experiences and interests with diverse and/or underrepresented groups.
  • Experience with academic administration and student advising strongly preferred.
  • Attendance at national conferences in health promotion, wellness, integrative medicine, and health care, and be familiar with advances in the field. This teaching position requires that the individual has established institutional and personal connections within the health promotion discipline.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES

This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to work under deadline pressure, sitting and standing for long periods of time, oral and written communication, keyboarding for significant portions of the workday, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, patience, and tact to perform the essential functions.

LOCATION

Remote with requirement for in-person attendance to annual intensives and departmental/institutional meetings - residence within 2 hours of San Francisco preferred.

  • Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office environment at a desk or computer terminal, typically Monday through Friday.
