Position Description

Public Policy Leadership. The Department of Public Policy Leadership at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a one-year instructional assistant professor for 2024-2025 to begin in January 2024. The position is renewable for up to one year with the agreement of both parties. The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per semester. A Ph.D. or ABD in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, or a related field is required at the time of employment, as is a record of excellence in teaching. The successful candidate is expected to teach PPL 101 \xe2\x80\x9cFoundations of Public Policy Leadership\xe2\x80\x9d (theories and principles of public policy formation, implementation, and assessment), U.S. domestic policy or leadership studies courses in the candidate\'s area of specialization, and possibly PPL 212 \xe2\x80\x9cCritical Thinking, Communication, and Public Policy\xe2\x80\x9d.

The Department of Public Policy Leadership provides a challenging undergraduate major that prepares high-performing students for positions of leadership in an increasingly complex world. The interdisciplinary curriculum for the major incorporates geography, political science, public policy and administration, and philosophy. The program emphasizes in-depth understanding of policy issues, the global nature of responsible decision-making, the ethical imperatives of leadership, critical thinking and communication skills, and the methodological skills necessary for careful policy analysis.
