Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

To provide oversight of the Administrative Services activities; to manage university recycling and waste management operations; and to manage Special Services (events and moving services). Responsible for maintaining automated management information systems, for tracking and monitoring the group\'s budget, work order system, and human resource and safety requirements. Serves as the group\'s representative on a wide range of campus committees.
Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor\'s Degree required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years\' experience in the supervision of program planning, budgeting, and knowledge of facilities operations (related to this position) and staffing and management.
  • Minimum of five (5) years\' supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of business operations to include planning, budgeting, computer skills, and personnel management techniques.
  • The ability to manage others and maintain an organization which is competitive in the industry and has a strong customer service orientation.
  • Knowledge of custodial, special events, moving, fleet, solid waste, recycling, including personnel staffing requirements and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of technical specifications, use, and purchasing of equipment, chemicals, supplies, and materials as it relates to the above mentioned units.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources functions such as personnel policies, employment selection, and organizational planning.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with and direct a diverse work force.
  • Ability to work with and maintain effective relationships with others.
Other Required Qualifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Class \xe2\x80\x9cC\xe2\x80\x9d driver\'s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points
Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Preferred disciplines: general business management or related or environmental management or related.
  • Experience managing a medium to large recycling and/or waste management operation is preferable.
  • Experience in collective bargaining environment desirable.

The hiring salary range is $98,436 - $120,000.

Physical Demands

Position oversees responsibilities that span a 24 hour/7 day per week operation; incumbent should be flexible in work hours and schedule.

Position requires incumbent to spend a portion of time outdoors, providing management oversight in the field, inspecting and evaluating recycling and solid waste removal operations, and participating in recovery of recyclable materials.

Due to the nature of the position, the incumbent is an Essential employee, subject to a 24-hour day, seven-day week span of operation.
