Job Description


Agricultural Technical Assistance / Special Projects will coordinate outreach efforts with Tribes and Tribal Conservation Districts (TCD) to develop agricultural and conservation program education through hub trainings. The AG Tech will provide assistance in AG curriculum development and provide Technical Assistance in bridging educational opportunities in Agriculture and Food Security. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research and acquire funding to implement hydroponics system development, greenhouse planning, and food security initiatives.
  • Provide strategic planning support to and collaborate with Knik Tribe\xe2\x80\x99s Environmental and Cultural Resources Department, along with other departments, to address resource concerns in the community.
  • Partner with tribal, federal, state, regional, and local entities and participate in workgroups to enhance Knik Tribe\xe2\x80\x99s existing programs/initiatives and build new ones, if necessary.
  • Coordinate with Knik Environmental and Conservation programs and participate in planning meetings.
  • Seek funding opportunities and secure food contracts.
  • Coordinate outreach to rural Alaska stakeholders focused on Tribe\xe2\x80\x99s and Tribal Conservation Districts.
  • Develop rural ag partners and provide Technical Assistance to meet various rural tribes with assistance needs.
  • Conduct needs assessments with Tribes and TCDs to focus hub training planning.
  • Facilitate the coordination of rural Tribal hub trainings, focused on smart climate ag, soil health, food security, hydroponics, and energy conservation.
  • Build organizational capacity to track energy use in our hydroponics/agriculture projects for sustainable production and to be model demonstration for rural Alaska.
  • Provide Technical Assistance in bridging Agriculture and Energy projects.
  • Willing to expand in unique partnerships with livestock with tribal educational opportunities.
  • Livestock planning in rural AK planning, including greenhouse operations.
  • Research tribal special crops and other unique tribal opportunities such as reindeer livestock applications.
  • Agricultural curriculum development for rural Alaska planning.
  • Develop business planning with Ag, Livestock, and greenhouses.
  • Coordinate with agencies for technical assistance and funding opportunities: Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, Alaska Center for Energy and Power, Alaska Forum on the Environment, etc.
  • Attend agriculture, food security, and energy conservation related conferences and participate in advocacy.
  • Co-manage and co-plan Knik Tribe\xe2\x80\x99s farm, green house, and hydroponic system.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Agriculture, Biology, or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months fieldwork experience, preferred.
  • One (1) year experience grant writing, preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the socio-cultural needs of the Alaska Native and American Indian community.
  • Ability to frequently travel within and out of the State of Alaska.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including rain, heat and cold temperatures.
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds and perform strenuous outdoor activities. Position involves regular, and at times sustained, performance of heavier tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, kneeling, stooping, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy items.
  • Must pass a state and federal background check.

Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week), Monday \xe2\x80\x93 Friday. Flexibility offered to accommodate travel within and out of the state.
Salary: $32.00 \xe2\x80\x93 $36.00 per hour DOE/E. Plus full benefits: Federal Employee Health
