Job Summary:

Evaluate manufacturing feasibility, create fixture concepts, and develop process specifications for stamping, welding, and frame-related assembly processes for multiple programs to ensure that our products meet or exceed customer and/or internal requirements.

Qualifications/Essential Skills and Experience:

Post-secondary degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or equivalent technical competency with previous experience in seat frame or similar metal forming.

Self-starter with minimal oversight required

Experience with 3D CAD software (i.e. CATIA, Fusion 360, etc.) desired

Proficiency using PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Outlook

Understanding of manufacturing methods for stamping (incl. tooling), arc/laser welding (inc;. fixturing) and an understanding product assembly desired

Competency in design for manufacturing practices, including GD&T

Strong organizational skills

Effective cross-functional communication skills

Primary Position Responsibilities:

General Job Requirements

  • Liaise with Suppliers regarding development schedule, specification feasibility, etc.

  • Planning and Organizing
  • Creates and maintains schedule for development, specification maturation, appearance verification, and Mass Production start-up support
  • Arranges development plan with due regard for project budget and resources
  • Identifies, tracks, and prioritizes resolution of project concerns
  • Trains Production staff for critical processes
  • Technical Know-How
  • Owns Tool/Fixture Concept and Process Control Points deliverables with commitment to on-time release
  • Conducts problem root cause analysis and recommends countermeasures supported by data
  • Employs data-driven development tools (i.e. FTA, D/PFMEA, DRBFM, 5P, Statistics)
  • Has some knowledge of automotive frame processes: stamping, welding, riveting, roll forming, and assembly processes
  • Has ability or prospect to work in a machine shop and evaluate machine shop processes (i.e. welding, turning, milling, CNC, etc.)

  • Benchmarks competitor\'s products and stays informed about latest technologies and incorporates these themes into proposals to reinforce in-house processes

Specific Job Requirements
  • Frame Process R&D Expertise
  • Develops tool/fixture concept and Process Control Points
  • Continuously maintains awareness of company and supply base process capability and seeks to identify new processes or those with elevated risk
  • Generates tool and/or fixture concepts with prospect to meet quality, cost, and delivery requirements and organizes trial or simulation for verification
  • Confirms and optimizes metal part and product design for manufacturing from concept through start of production via prototype and production trials
  • Issues Process Control Points for release to Production site to guarantee proper function of the finished product
  • Prepares and reports development and target achievement progress via company Development System milestones
  • Domestic and international travel required as needed for trial and start-up activity (15%)
o Evaluate process feasibility from 3D data to identify assembly issues and problems

o Proactively collaborate with international experts to ensure smooth development and start-up for products developed locally and abroad

o Reviews supplier proposals and determines appropriateness of manufacturing method; develops alternative proposals through consultation with technical expert and stakeholder collaboration
