Job Summary:

Administrator and Curator to oversee the day-to-day business of the museum and deliver its mission. They are responsible for the management and operation of the House and Museum, its facilities, collections, and programs. The Administrator and Curator provides leadership to the organization, ensures a high-quality experience for visitors and the community, and participates in fundraising and financial planning. The Administrator and Curator provides access for faculty, staff, students, and university guests to this historic landmark, is committed to the stewardship of the building and collections, engages with community members, and is dedicated to its future through support for development and fundraising. The position is supported through the Emma Gould Blocker Fund, and supervised by the Director of the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum (RCCAM) of the College of Creative Arts at Miami University. The McGuffey House and Museum is part of the Museums Miami Center, and plays an active role in this support organization. The position is for 12 months and is renewable annually contingent on performance and funding.
Duties/Physical Demands:

The Curator and Administrator will:
1) Oversee building and grounds maintenance and upkeep, working with campus partners to identify areas for improvement to safeguard the building and collections;
2) Develop and implement strategic planning for the McGuffey House and Museum, manage its annual budget, identifying strategic needs as well as annual and periodic fundraising activities;
3) Develop collections plan/policy, oversee acquisitions and deaccessioning, document and manage museum collections through database, and coordinate photographic and documentary imaging of collections;
4) Research and disseminate knowledge relevant to the museum\'s mission and the building and collections, through print and online publications, inclusive exhibitions, classes, educational programs, and tours;
5) Supervise, manage, and train student employees and museum volunteers, including Docents;
6) Engage with in person and virtual visitors through the museum\'s website, social media and outreach opportunities with local community and institutional partners.
7) Implement museum and collections policies and procedures in accordance with University guidelines and professional best practices;
8) Work independently and as part of a team to design, create, and deliver educational programs;
9) Work assignments may require advanced knowledge, skills, or abilities. Some independent judgment or initiative;
10) Engage with faculty, staff, students, university guests and visiting researchers to provide access to building and collections and related information;
11) The position includes the responsibility to supervise student employees, interns, project employees, and volunteers;
12) May require a significant amount of physical exertion, adverse hours, or working conditions;
13) Areas of work include the McGuffey House and Museum building and surrounding grounds, the Art Museum, involvement with Museums Miami Center institutions and community spaces outside of Miami University;
14) Attend special events outside of regular office hours when assigned;
15) Represent McGuffey House and Museum in public programs, teaching, guest lectures, workshop presentations, publications, and participation in professional groups.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor\'s degree in History, Library Science or Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related arts or humanities field; Minimum three years as an employee at a museum, library or archive, historical house or organization, educational institution, or non-profit institution.
Desired Qualifications:

Consideration may be given to candidates with Master\'s degree or related professional degree with specialization in a relevant field, such as History, Library Science or Museum Studies, Education, Art History, or a related arts or humanities field; Prior experience in the non-profit sector is desirable, as is demonstrated success in grant-writing; Experience in management of collections; Experience in archives and digitization best practices. Knowledge of standard office procedures and equipment; Knowledge of computers and office applications; Some knowledge of administrative procedures which may include budgeting, research, preparing reports and evaluations; Work well with others as part of a team, ranging from student assistants, staff, faculty and volunteer docents; Research skills; Ability to communicate effectively in written form; Skill in communicating effectively orally / in person as appropriate for the needs of the audience; Knowledge of World History and American history, familiarity with 19th to 20th century art, antiques and historical archives; Knowledge of federal and state policies and procedures and legal regulations relating to collections and historic landmarks; Knowledge and use of Collections Management Systems, such as TMS or similar; Experience and knowledge of varied materials and preservation needs for collections in museum environment; Experience with not-for-profit fundraising and/or use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools.
