Position Information


The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) seeking an Administrative Management Specialist for the Parks and Natural Resources Division to provide administrative and operational support, including the management of small and long-term County programs, services, projects, and/or contracts.

Specific duties include:

  • Assists with development of projects, services guidelines, and program design and planning;
  • Conducts site visits/inspections, analyzes issues and problems, documents findings, and makes recommendations for solutions;
  • Prepares draft project recommendations, policy solutions, reports, memos, responses to GRAMs, and executive summaries;
  • Evaluates projects, programs, and services for trends and patterns, including recommending changes to ensure efficient delivery of services;
  • Develops trainings and informational outreach programs, events, and/or presentations, including teaching classes and workshops in a specialty area;
  • Develops and oversees the preparation of grant proposals and identifying sources of funds;
  • Manages service documentation to ensure approval for new services and continued authorization requests;
  • Supports emergency weather events by coordinating schedules, maintaining records, and ensuring accurate timekeeping; and
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria
Minimum:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Public/Business Administration or related field; and
  • Some experience providing administrative support, public administration, general public policy research, or a related field.
Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Working in the public sector;
  • Project/program management; and
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, GIS/Mapping, Cartegraph, and/or work order systems.

Special Requirements


A pre-employment background check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, and maintain a valid driver license. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of their driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant\'s driving record.
Additional Information


Work hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with teleworking options. Weekend work is required periodically and will be scheduled based on a rotating cycle. This position is considered essential, employee is required to work during emergencies, and be available for immediate callback for snow emergencies.
