Job Responsibilities

With our Agency\'s mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.

This position is located at the Department of Mental Health - Division of Inpatient Services, , 610 Faison Drive, Columbia, SC 29203.

In this position, you will provide psychiatric care to patients at Morris Village with substance use disorders (SUD) to include diagnostic assessments and treatment planning. Direct, plan, develop, and organize clinical activities for assigned patients and treatment team. Performs additional duties as directed by the Medical Director at Morris Village.
Responsibilities for the Addictions Psychiatrist:-

  • Provides medical leadership to treatment team and competent care to assigned patients.
  • Ensures treatment/service/care planning processes are effectively implemented ..\\
  • Completes required documentation on patients throughout their admission to Morris Village (i.e., admissions, progress notes, discharge paperwork).
  • Possesses required certification to prescribe medications for SUD (e.g., Buprenorphine for Opioid Use Disorders) and utilizes approved SUD pharmacotherapies routinely, as appropriate.
  • Supervises !nurse practitioners, provides consultation to colleagues, and serves as a member of the medical staff and other Department of lnpatient Services committees, as assigned.
  • Maintains Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits as outlined by ABPN and for licensure in S.C.
  • Coordinates and supervises scholarly activities/quality improvement projects, as directed.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina. Completion of residency in Psychiatry.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
Certification or eligibility for certification in Addiction Psychiatry by the ABPN is desirable.

Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
