The Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General Jeff Landry, is seeking applications for an Accounting Supervisor. Salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.

The position will be domiciled in the Livingston Building, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, East Baton Rouge Parish. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background check and reference verifications.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting.

SUBSTITUTIONS FOR DEGREE ONLY:
Six years of full-time experience in any field may be substituted for the required baccalaureate degree.

Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree (not the 24 hours in accounting) as follows:
  • A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
  • 30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
  • 60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
  • 90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
  • 120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree may be substituted for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.

Job Concepts

This position is responsible for providing general accounting services related to functions within the Department of Justice while directly supervising a mix of professional and paraprofessional accounting staff. It receives direct supervision from the Accountant Manager. This position is responsible for maintaining the DOJ\'s Travel and assisting the department\'s daily accounting functions.

Examples of Work

Responsible for travel reimbursements request in accordance the State Travel - PPM 49.

Performs accounting functions necessary for the payment of vendor invoices the department receives.

Maintains cash management records, including funds drawn and received, funds disbursed by sources, deposits of funds, and classifies revenue as the sources of funding and expenditures as to their nature.

Responsible for travel reimbursement request for the staff of Department of Justice. Work includes but not limited to:
  • Responsible for the operation of the automated Travel Reimbursement System provided through LEO.
  • Reviews travel expense related documents.
  • Ensures the reimbursements are in compliance with department\'s travel policies and procedures and the Louisiana State Travel Regulations (DOA PPM49), and also ensures proper coding of expenditures.
  • Assist employees in clarification of travel rules, regulations, procedures, and updates.
  • Maintain organized travel files.
Performs accounting functions necessary for the payment of vendor invoices the department receives. Work includes but not limited to:
  • Communicates with vendors to ensure the accuracy of accounts.
  • Reviews the monthly encumbrance report for the problems and errors.
  • Coordinates with procurement and contracts section\'s staff to ensure the timely payment of invoices.
  • Reviews and approves payment document that are created by the other accountant staff.
Performs Journal Voucher. Working includes but not limited to:
  • Review accounts to ensure that coding is correct. If noted incorrectly research coding to journal to correct coding.
  • Journal Voucher expenses as directed by Accountant Manager.
Performs the reconciliations of monthly bank statements for the agency various banking accounts. Work includes but not limited to:
  • Analysis and adjustment of difference between the cash balance shown on bank statement and amount shown on agency\'s bank records.
  • Responsible to yearly report to treasury of all unclaimed property in accordance to state guidelines.
Performs daily deposit in which the agency receives. Work includes but not limited to:
  • Daily deposit of checks to the state treasury in accordance to the state guidelines.
  • Ensuring that all checks deposited are reconciled to LaGov daily.
Perform and other duties as assigned by Accountant Manager and Deputy Director.
