Job Description

Dana Incorporated is seeking to fill 2023 Fall engineering co-op positions at their World Headquarters in Maumee, OH. This is a great opportunity to develop your technical skills by working alongside Dana\'s engineers in the completion of departmental oriented tasks/assignments.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Benchmark Lab
The Benchmark lab is responsible for understanding the products of our competitors.

  • Teardown competitor products for analysis.
  • Document components with photos and create photoprints.
  • Analyze findings and prepare teardown analysis reports.


Gear Lab

The Gear lab is responsible for successful production of prototype gears for Dana\xe2\x80\x99s axle assemblies.
  • Operate gear production equipment and perform tooling change overs.
  • Collect data and analyze gear dimensions to make necessary machine adjustments
  • Opportunity to learn about gear production.


Materials Lab

The Materials Lab analyzes the metallurgical/chemical composition of materials used in Dana\xe2\x80\x99s products to understand component failures and effects of production process changes.
  • Prepare samples for testing (section, mount, polish) and etching solutions.
  • Plan and perform testing and material analysis on test samples
  • Evaluate and interpret test results. Prepare test reports


Test Lab

The Test lab performs a variety of tests on current production parts and new product designs in order to understand potential failure modes.
  • Assist engineers with testing and development of Dana products and processes.
  • Assemble, test, and analyze specified products to meet various customer performance requirements.
  • Perform process development/documentation of safe manufacturing work instructions.


Samples Department

The Samples Department builds prototype axles and driveshafts that are used for lab and vehicle testing.
  • Assist in the building of prototype axle and driveshaft assemblies.
  • Review and create safety documentation.
  • Assist in implementation of 5S methodology.


Applications Engineering

Application engineers are responsible for interfacing with Dana\xe2\x80\x99s customer. They are the liaison between engineers at the vehicle manufacturer and Dana\xe2\x80\x99s internal engineering departments.
  • Analyze vehicle requirements to best determine the correct product for a vehicle application.
  • Work with the Product Engineering department to develop new part designs as necessary to fit vehicle needs.
  • Interface with the CAD department in order to create assembly prints.
  • Assist in managing the building prototype parts that will be used for lab and vehicle testing.
  • Oversee lab testing for product assemblies.
  • Remain in constant contact with Dana\xe2\x80\x99s customers to ensure superior customer service.


Product Engineering

Product engineers are responsible for new product design of component parts as well as determining how manufacturing process changes affect the integrity of production parts.
  • Work with the Application Engineering department to develop new part designs as necessary to fit vehicle needs.
  • Interface with manufacturing facilities to navigate production process challenges.
  • Communicate with the CAD department in order to create component part prints.
  • Oversee lab testing for component parts.
  • Work with Dana\xe2\x80\x99s purchasing team to determine suppliers who can best meet product needs.


Global Manufacturing Engineering

Manufacturing engineers work with our applications/product engineers and machine builders to design and develop new equipment for our manufacturing and assembly plants.
  • Work with the Application and Product engineering departments to understand the manufacturing requirement needs of new program launches.
  • Interface with machine builders to ensure machines are built in a manner they can produce product within a program\xe2\x80\x99s requirements.
  • Communicate with manufacturing and assembly plants on the facility needs for new equipment.
  • Ensure that the machines are operating as designed, assist with trouble shooting and process improvements of machine output.


Mechatronics/Controls Engineering

Mechatronic and Controls Engineers are responsible for design and testing of a variety of mechatronic driveline component parts. Many of these are new product designs which are a part of electric axle assemblies.
  • Perform development testing, evaluate data, and write test reports.
  • Collaborate in development of test requirements, procedures, and equipment.
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot automotive electronic components.
  • Modify, develop, and deploy control solutions with MATLAB, Simulink, and dSPACE.
  • Assemble wire harnesses, circuit boards, control boxes, test fixtures, and other custom modules.


Advanced Engineering

The Advanced Engineering group is responsible for the development of Dana\xe2\x80\x99s new electrified product; mainly electric axles and component assemblies.
  • Program, test, and analyze the control systems of new product designs.
  • Design and perform advanced development testing.
  • Analyze data collected from testing.
  • Assist with vehicle integration of electrified driveline systems.


Noise, Vibration, Harshness (NVH) Engineering

The NVH Engineering team is responsible for ensuring our products meet the noise requirements of our customer specifications.
  • Support engineers in the NVH lab with vehicle instrumentation, bench testing setup, and vehicle part swapping.
  • Learn the fundamentals of noise and vibration as it pertains to driveline components in the automotive industry.
  • Perform NVH testing and analysis to support all customer programs which may include vehicle testing, subjective analysis of noise/vibration quality, objective data analysis of noise/vibration, frequency analysis, order analysis/order tracking, and modal analysis.
  • Conduct noise and vibrations measurement and analysis on driveline components and systems.


Requirements
Enrollment & active pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Specific majors: Mechanical, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Metallurgical, Computer Software, Electrical or Mechatronics program.
Proven work experience, strong analytical ability, & excellent mechanical aptitude.
Self-directed & motivated individual with great organizational skills.
Experience with Manufacturing or Assembly a plus.
Willing to do multiple assignments & rotate through other engineering departments.
Full-time availability.
Good oral & written communication skills.
Must be able to interface in a team environment.
