J Youth Services Advocate Responsible for providing advocacy and support to the Youth Program. Duties include individual and group peer counseling for youth and their parents, prevention, and awareness activities, providing child care, and other essential tasks necessary for producing a safe and healthy environment for youth who are receiving Family Advocates, Inc. services. Each Youth Services staff member is responsible for providing services in one of the outreach counties of Iowa and Lafayette. Reports to: Executive Director Lead Supervisor: Youth Services Director Qualifications: 1. Education and/or experience in human services work with youth. 2. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and non-judgmentally with paid and unpaid staff, clients and their youth, other professionals, and community agencies. 3. Knowledge of, or experience with, issues surrounding at-risk youth, child abuse prevention, and indicators of abuse. 4. Crisis intervention skills. 5. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 6. Flexibility, ability to prioritize, and experience in working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively. 7. Public speaking experience preferred. 8. Scrupulous adherence to principles of confidentiality. Essential General Responsibilities: 1. Maintain records and statistics. 2. Provide assistance for all programs related to youth. 3. Promote a non-violent environment in the shelter which encourages nurturing and growth-oriented atmosphere. 4. Serve as the agency\xe2\x80\x99s advocate for the best interest of youth. 5. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/Associate Director. Essential Direct Services Responsibilities: 1. Assist any staff person with child care or support of children who are utilizing or whose parents are utilizing any of Family Advocates, Inc.\xe2\x80\x99s services. 2. Provide individual peer counseling and emotional support to youth. 3. Provide assistance with group counseling to youth. 4. Provide a weekly parenting group for parents to learn skills and resources. 5. Answer the crisis line and provide peer counseling, emergency transportation, and follow-up as needed. 6. Assist with parenting support through individual and/or group counseling. 7. Provide on-call services in one week increments on a rotating basis with other agency staff. Essential Training Responsibilities: 1. Must complete the volunteer training. 2. Attend workshops/conferences pertaining to youth issues. 3. Conduct training and in-services for schools, community agencies, and professionals. 4. Provide training to youth program volunteers. Additional Responsibilities/Requirements: 1. Attend staff meetings. 2. Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, automobile, and insurance. 3. Access to a private telephone. 4. Available nights, weekends, and holidays. Working Conditions: 1. Professional office environment and attire. 2. Face-to-face client interaction daily. 3. Travel to offices in each of the three counties served. 4. Frequent changes in duties, tasks, and conditions. Job Type: Part-time Pay: $17.50 - $18.50 per hour Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Evenings as needed
  • Morning shift
