The Youth Behavioral Health Community Crisis Center team focuses on building healthy relationships and teaching appropriate social skills, coping skills, and anger management skills. SUMMARY The Youth Crisis Peer Support Specialist functions within the scope of practice as established by the Certification of Peer Support Specialist and Optum Idaho Youth Support Endorsement training. As a fully-integrated member of the service delivery team, the Youth Peer Support Specialist will provide support to youth with severe emotional disturbances and/or persistent mental illness. Youth Support Services will promote recovery and resiliency. Youth Peer Support Specialist will assist and support youth in understanding their role in accessing services, becoming informed consumers of services and self-advocacy within a Crisis Center setting. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Meets with youth who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis modeling recovery and sharing their story of lived experience to connect and engage youth in the recovery process
Provides services in a context that is youth-centered, and aligns with the specific hopes, goals, strengths and needs of the youth
Utilizes trauma-informed and strength-based framework that emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety
Delivers services in a manner that are strengths-based, culturally competent and responsive to each youth\xe2\x80\x99s individual psychosocial, developmental and treatment care needs
Serves as a resource to the Pathways Youth Crisis Center team in incorporating recovery strategies and tools into youth interactions, reinforcing an approach of youth self-advocacy in all aspects of recovery planning
Collaborates with the youth and their family to help youth achieve and maintain their own recovery
Supports youth in achieving their recovery goals
Supports and educates the youth in navigating behavioral health systems
Helps youth develop a network of support
Empowers youth to develop skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life.
Monitors/observes youth for safety such as checking on youth every minute when youth is in the bathrooms, observing youth in the day and sleeping areas, talking with youth in between assessment and discharge, providing support and resources for youth prior to discharge
Collaborates with youth\xe2\x80\x99s treatment team to include but not be limited to the youth\xe2\x80\x99s clinicians, medical physicians, family/social supports, and/or agencies and other programs with which the youth is involved to promote continuation of care
Maintains confidentiality of all client documents, files and communication in written, electronic and/or verbal form
Documents all client interactions within designated electronic health records system
Participate in any in-service training
Submits time sheets every other Monday and meets documentation deadlines
Participate in an annual performance evaluation regarding one\xe2\x80\x99s experience working as a Youth Peer Specialist.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
Peer Support Certification issued by BPA
Must be certified prior to providing youth peer support services. Must comply with all Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and BPA requirements and guidelines in order to maintain certification. Recertification paperwork must be submitted to the BPA after the first 6 months of providing peer support services, then on an annual basis after the first recertification.
Must complete 20 hours of supervision and 100-200 hours of work experience within their first 6 months. After the 6-month recertification providers are required to renew on an annual basis and complete 10 CEUS one of which must be ethics.
Optum Idaho Youth Support Endorsement
Valid Driver License with clean driving record (as needed; when applicable per Program)
Ability to pass background checks, including Enhanced Fingerprinting with ID DHW.
Must be minimum eighteen (18) years of age
QUALIFICATIONS
Possess organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and be flexible.
Interpret a variety of instructions and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to teach coping/life skills while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with clients
Effectively prioritize and manage time
Able to perform basic word processing and utilize Electronic Medical Records (EHR) system for the completion of tasks or has the ability to learn these skills
Read, analyze, and interpret state regulations and corporate policies. Capacity to establish written treatment plans as directly related to identified clinic service needs, effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, clients and the public
Identify solutions to practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
