The Community Dietitian will work intermittently to consult and collaborate with Women, Infants and Children (WIC) staff and participants. This position will provide high risk care plans to identified WIC participants and approve specialty formulas in partnership with medical providers and WIC staff. The Dietitian will perform direct nutrition services to WIC participants and give technical assistance and consultation regarding nutrition services to WIC staff. Responsibilities::
  • Mentor SEARHC employees by precepting their work to pass the State of Alaska WIC guidelines. Meet with SEARHC WIC clients on-site and assess needs, provide intervention, and document service and recommendations in accordance with this Agreement, the State of Alaska WIC protocol, and the State of Alaska policies and procedures related to WIC services
  • Provide technical assistance and consultation regarding nutrition services to all SEARHC WIC staff while on-site
  • Complete all ENPRs, High Risk Care Plans and meet policy and procedure requirements of the State of Alaska WIC program
  • Provide documentation of services provided to WIC participants and/or WIC employees either in the Spirit software system or written reports whichever is most appropriate and timely
  • Process regular applications from SEARHC WIC clients
  • Ensure SEARHC WIC services comply with applicable regulatory requirements, including but not limited to nutrition services, certification, clinic operations and vendor management
  • Ensure SEARHC WIC staff complies with State of Alaska WIC program policies and procedures
  • Maintain training and proficiency on eWIC processes as required by State of Alaska WIC Program
  • Train new hire SEARHC WIC staff on WIC policies and procedures
  • Participate in any required chart audits while on-site
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned
  • These services shall be performed in Juneau, Alaska, as SEARHC in its sole discretion may direct work elsewhere
  • Perform other duties as assigned by SEARHC Project Officer or s/he designee.
Qualifications::
Education
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Nutrition/Dietetics or nutrition related field from an accredited school
  • Master of Science Degree in Public Health in nutrition and/or dietetics or other health promotion related field preferred

Experience
  • Two years WIC experience required
  • Supervisory/mentoring training preferred

License/Registration
  • Licensed Dietitian/Licensed Nutritionist in the State of Alaska or eligible for licensure in the State of Alaska and licensed prior to start date
  • Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Must adhere to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics code of ethics and licensure plus keep current on registration and licensing.
  • Valid Alaska driver\xe2\x80\x99s license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nutrition care planning process.
  • Knowledge of behavior/lifestyle change theories and how to apply them.
  • Skills in brief motivational clinical encounters, value-enhanced nutrition assessment (VENA), and participant-centered education (this is taught as part of the CPA training required).
  • Skills in oral and written communication including reflective listening skills.
  • High proficiency in client documentation in SOAP format and computerized code in an efficient manner.
  • Ability to assess nutrition and health status needs of individuals and communities.
  • Ability to develop culturally sensitive nutrition/health promotion interventions.
  • Ability to locate and review best available research findings for application to a community dietetics practice.
