The estimated base salary range for this role is $75,000 to $94,000 per year.
Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience and other relevant factors

The Value Stream Specialist (VSS) is responsible for daily adherence to standard processes within the Value Stream while providing management, coordination, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing process. This includes but is not limited to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and People development while providing support to the production/maintenance supervisors and their teams. This position is primarily responsible for the tactical day-to-day standard adherence of the Value Stream while driving the elimination of waste. This position reports to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct supervision of approximately 4-5 process improvement personnel.
  • Facilitate the daily GEMBAs within the Value Stream.
  • Coach team members on the use of process control standards, techniques, methodologies, and equipment capabilities.
  • Drive improvement projects for the Value Stream.
  • Countermeasure follow-up, facilitate RCFAs/5-Whys, and completion of special cause analysis.
  • Ownership and coordination of the operator training systems.
  • Plan and coordinate activities around down days, major shutdowns, and holiday periods.
  • Prioritize and coordinate daily maintenance, contractor, and production activities in the operation.
  • Coordinate and support operations with production planning; raw material flow, inventory, packaging, quality of material and GIP.
  • Recommend solutions to the Operations Manager/Capital Manager to be included in the annual Capital and Maintenance Budgets.
  • Provide on-shift technical support for a 4-crew rotating shift schedule.
  • Perform a variety of tasks to assure the proper supervision of the assigned operational area as needed.
Improvement Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the development of and adherence to Standard Work, specifications, troubleshooting guides and other process documentation.
  • Develop and improve internal plant communication processes between operations, maintenance, lab, staff, and leadership.
  • Develop and improve manpower utilization processes.
  • Drive improvements in operations through effective Down day planning and execution.
  • Manage the completion of RCFAs in the operation.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma plus 5+ years of manufacturing experience or bachelor\'s degree in a technical field (Engineering, Business, or related).
  • Knowledge and practical experience applying Lean Manufacturing or process improvement principles to enable organizational transformation.
  • Proven ability to implement and audit systems to drive the utilization of technology and support systems to achieve manufacturing results.
  • Project Management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
  • Effective Written and Verbal Communication skills.
  • Integration skills to leverage operations, maintenance staff support, and internal and external suppliers.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Mini Tab, etc.
  • Have working technical knowledge of the following manufacturing technologies:
  • Lean Manufacturing
  • DMAIC
  • Six Sigma
  • Kaizen
  • Ability to pull and work with data sets from multiple sources including Data Historian, Infinity, MX, SAP, and other plant systems to identify opportunities and accurately assess situations.
Desired Qualifications and Skills:
  • Supervisory experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a continuous manufacturing process.
  • 8-Step Problem Solving/DMAIC/PDCA Utilization.
  • Thorough knowledge of plant business system processes such as work order process, raw material flow, project planning, production, down day planning, and work rules.

Our Millwood plant in West Virginia is one of fifteen Armstrong plants in North America. The city of Millwood runs along the Ohio River about 50 miles north of Charleston, WV.
