Job Description

  • Opportunity to cover wide variety of real estate assets
The Underwriting Associate will be responsible for underwriting an array of complex loans secured by stabilized, transitional and construction projects located throughout the United States. The role will also involve the review and re-underwrite loans underlying commercial mortgage backed securities. With a goal of process development and execution, this candidate must be an exceptional communicator with strong analytical, modeling, and presentation skills, and have the ability to build strong partnerships across the company, including credit organizations, investment, legal, finance, and asset management team.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Analyze, model, interpret and underwrite complex real estate loans and securities
  • Conduct detailed economic and demographic research to assess risk.
  • Analyzing, utilize and model various source documents
  • Confirm underwriting assumptions through discussion with third party brokers and other market participants
  • Prepare, present and discuss underwriting results to management and other stakeholders, in a collaborative roundtable environment.
  • Actively participate in special projects, including implementation of new technologies to support the platform\'s growth and scalability.
  • Evaluate borrows and sponsors to confirm satisfaction of credit standards, which will include researching background documentation including borrower financials.
  • Monitor national, regional and local market dynamics to assess tenant credit risks and concentrations.

  • BA Degree or equivalent experience in related field of study.
  • 5-10 year experience in underwriting commercial real estate loans.
  • Advanced analytical, valuation and financial modeling skills.
  • Fundamental knowledge of commercial real estate, fixed income, and general financial concepts.
  • Excellent fundamental understanding of commercial real estate concepts and major property types.
  • Experience and broad knowledge in underwriting multifamily, industrial, office, retail and hospitality.
  • Strong knowledge of developing NCF assumptions and tenant health.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including building models and data analysis and Argus experience.
  • A strong analytical thought process with sound judgment and a keen attention to detail.
  • Experience in constructing loan or bridge lending is a plus.
