CVP is seeking a Travel Histology Technicians to join our team in providing our Nation's Veterans with essential laboratory services at the VA Central California Health Care System (VACCHCS) in Fresno, CA. This is a full-time position working Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
Weekly Pay:$2,399.06 ($31.31/hr W2 + per diem 1,146.66)
Heath & Wellbess Beneft: $5.09/hr (Can opt to receive as cash in lieu of benefits)
Contract: Current - February 2026
Perform routine and complex histological procedures for the VA Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service
Receive and accession specimens from various locations including surgery, outpatient clinics, and emergency department
Prepare technically adequate slides of tissue sections by processing tissue blocks, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping
Deliver prepared slides to the pathologist for diagnosis
Perform needle biopsies and frozen section procedures as needed
Assist with autopsy procedures, including preparing the body for dissection, making initial cavity incisions, dissecting and removing tissue
Weigh and record tissue weights and sizes, preserve tissue for microscopic examination
Obtain specimens for microbiologic cultures
Close incisions and prepare the body for delivery to the mortuary
Maintain the histology laboratory in an orderly fashion
File blocks and slides in accordance with established protocols
Comply with all VA directives, The Joint Commission standards, and American Hospital Association standards
Process incoming consults following standardized procedures
Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to privacy regulations
Ability to successfully undergo a Government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
Current Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist license
Histology Technician certification/experience
Ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently
Proficiency with laboratory information systems
Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and protocols
Experience with tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining techniques
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (can be obtained upon hire)
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Prior experience in a VA hospital setting
+ Prior experience with VA laboratory information systems
+ Experience with specialized staining techniques
