About the Role:
The Transfer Station Supervisor oversees the daily operations of a municipal or commercial solid-waste transfer station. This role ensures the safe and efficient handling of waste materials, compliance with environmental regulations, high-quality customer service, and effective supervision of staff and equipment. To manage day-to-day operations, the supervisor ensures proper waste flow and material handling, monitors incoming waste for prohibited materials, and ensures proper disposal procedures. They coordinate staging, loading, and transportation of waste to designated disposal or recycling facilities. Additionally, they lead, schedule, train, and evaluate transfer station staff--including equipment operators, scale attendants, and laborers--and ensure staff follow safety protocols and operational procedures. They also conduct regular team meetings and safety briefings. The supervisor enforces OSHA, DOT, EPA, and local environmental regulations, and implements safety programs such as PPE use, hazard reporting, and incident response. They oversee the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment like loaders, compactors, and trucks, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance with mechanics and vendors. They ensure the facility remains clean, organized, and compliant with regulatory standards. They assist customers, haulers, and the public with disposal instructions and fee information, address complaints, and resolve issues promptly and professionally. The supervisor manages budgets, supply orders, vendor contracts, and supports audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.

Full Salary Range:
$63,104.00 - $112,924.00 Annually
Hiring Range:
$63,104.00 - $83,032.00

Monday-Friday 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM
Hours are subject to change based on business needs
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, direct, and evaluate daily work projects across the MSW and C&D landfill sites.
Apply standard construction practices to landfill cell development, earthwork, and infrastructure maintenance.
Oversee workforce assignments, equipment utilization, and project timelines.
Ensure operational compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and City procedures.
Review progress and adjust workflow to meet operational demands and project goals.
Maintain accurate records for activities, inspections, and daily work.
Provide steady leadership, coaching, and accountability for frontline staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
4+ years of Waste Disposal Environment experience (i.e., Landfill, Transfer Station, Recycle Center, etc.)
Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) certification and/or Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) certification
Weighmasters License ("Or" the ability to obtain within six months of hire date)
CPR Certification ("Or" the ability to obtain within six months of hire date)
Valid Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
* 3+ years of Supervisory or management experience
