Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide daily oversight and supervision of a line of service for solid waste operations provide and oversee solid waste personnel while providing a high level of customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Investigates and confirms City staff's collection service deliveries. Plans, initiates and monitors City staff's daily activities. Plans and monitors the effectiveness of business recycling programs. Observes, documents, and evaluates City staff performance. Operates equipment in support of daily collection activities as needed for continuity of service schedules Oversees and executes customer service activities and initiatives.

Supplemental Functions:

Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

Knowledge:

Operating heavy equipment and hand and power tools Solid waste and recycling collection principles and practices Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations Budgetary principles

Licensing and Certifications:

Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License; CPR and First Aid Certified.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking. Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly. Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency, with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in Solid Waste & Recycling and demonstrated leadership experience in the form of Supervisor, Team Lead or Crew Leader; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
