ABOUT THE POSITION

Traffic Engineer Virginia Beach, VA

VHB is seeking a dynamic and talented Traffic Engineer (Operations/ Safety) to join our Multimodal Transportation Team at our Virginia Beach, VA office. The selected candidate will support our clients\xe2\x80\x99 efforts to plan and design new and improved urban transportation facilities that support and enhance mobility for all transportation modes and reduce crashes and injuries in our local communities.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation engineering, safety, and planning solutions for multimodal transportation projects
  • Perform traffic engineering analysis, including traffic operations forecasting and modeling, traffic control device evaluations, and pedestrian/bicycle alternatives studies
  • Manage and perform safety and operational studies (from localized to network/regional scale)
  • Perform traffic data collection, reduction, and analysis
  • Develop traffic control plans
  • Prepare conceptual and detailed design plans
  • Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
  • Research and interpret transportation data, community statistics, and demographics
  • Provide communications support
Skills & Abilities
  • Enthusiasm to learn and ability to take responsibility
  • Proficiency in at least some of the following systems: Synchro/SimTraffic, SIDRA, HCS, MicroStation/AutoCAD, MS Office, Vissim, GIS.
  • Familiarity with national and/or local transportation engineering standards, including VDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents
  • Preference for understanding of fundamentals of traffic design, signal timing, highway safety and active transportation operations
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Qualifications
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Planning, or related field
  • Related transportation operations, safety, and/or multimodal engineering background
  • 3+ years of experience
  • EIT preferred, PE a plus
