Job Summary



Job Summary: Job incumbent is responsible for coordinating activities, events and material that target tobacco policy & prevention in health services within the Tanana Chiefs region. Incumbent will collaborate with local health services to advocate and unite against tobacco usage.


Adhere to the TCC Ch\xe2\x80\x99eghwtsen\xe2\x80\x99 model of service and guiding principle which requires providing timely and effective service along with the ability to interact with others in a way that inspires trust and demonstrates respect, compassion and empathy.


Essential Functions

Representative Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Tobacco Prevention Policy Director, job incumbent will:



1. Provide training, community activities and educational resources to, and work with, Chief Andrew Isaac Health Center, TCC Health Service programs, and other entities within the TCC region on tobacco prevention education .


2. Network and collaborate with other Tanana Chiefs Conference programs and partners to achieve grant objectives.


3. Develop resources for and assist TCC services and other entities in implementing and enforcing tobacco policies within TCC region.


4. Work with potential partners to develop and collaborate on tobacco policy and education resources within TCC region. This includes distribution of reference materials.


5. Develop and present materials during public events.


6. Be responsible for writing, reviewing, implementing and maintaining all reports under the supervision of the Wellness and Prevention Director.


7. Participate in regional coalitions.


8. Coordinate and facilitate monthly Tobacco Coalition meetings in collaboration with the Tobacco Policy Coordinator; lead the Coalition toward achieving grant objectives.


9. Assist with the writing, administration, management, and renewal of tobacco and other applicable grant(s). Collaborate with grantors on grant requirements and prevention activities. Compile and generate quarterly reports to State and Federal granting agencies.


10. Participate in grantee training and meetings.


11. Participate in and conduct meetings, as necessary.


12. Prepare and review the administration of budgets, and workload For Tobacco Prevention.

Minimum Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications:



1. Bachelor\'s degree in health related field or business related field. Experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year by year basis.


2. Three years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.


3. Experience in coordinating program services throughout urban and rural areas, in collaboration with Tribal governing entities.


4. Must have experience in developing and providing trainings and workshops.


5. Demonstrated experience in developing work groups.


6. Experience in grant compliance and implementation.


7. Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements and State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS).


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:





1. Computer skills required with proficiency using PC with Adobe Creative Suites, and MS Word processing software.


2. Knowledge and ability to adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations.


3. Ability to cultivate respectful and collaborative working relationships with individuals in the community.


4. Excellent verbal, written, multi-tasking and presentation skills. Knowledge of Tobacco Cessation Theory and health lifestyle initiatives.


5. Demonstrated skill in working in a rapidly changing environment.


6. Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word applications.


7. Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills.


8. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.


9. Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures/systems and ability to work with the indigenous population.


10. Knowledge of communication strategies, writing techniques, report preparation and grant writing.


Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Physical demands: Requirements are those of normal office type work with extended hours of sitting and operation of standard office and computer equipment. Frequent village travel via small aircraft and/or 4WD suburban or van required. May be exposed to conditions including but not limited to: lack of running water, poor heat, sleeping on floors and adverse weather. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds in support of equipment and supplies. Must be able to work in a busy and sometimes stressful environment.



Summation



Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Tobacco Prevention Policy Director, job incumbent will play a vital role in bringing groups together to collaborate and reduce tobacco use throughout Interior Alaska, particularly among Alaska Natives. Job incumbent must display a strong personal interest in advocacy in tobacco policy and education. Job incumbent must be a self-starter, capable of working independently. Job incumbent must have the ability to network with statewide regional tobacco policy programs. Incumbent will work closely with TCC staff, local and interior community members, Tribes, advisory councils and work groups. This job has high contact with people, which require excellent problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
