Job Description


Responsible for safe operation practices in the electrics shop, and primary crew chief during the hang, focus, repair, and programming of lighting for academic programming and external live events held at the CPA. Additionally, also supervises all electrics event operations, as well as being the supervisor of all programming of electrics. Assist faculty and students in the electrics shop and other theatrical lighting-related tasks.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • One to two years of college credit (30 hours are equivalent to one year) or related certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years (or 2 years with an AA or above in a relevant program) of experience working in a professional theatrical or event-based environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to collaborate with a wide variety of individuals and organizations including (but not limited to) students, community groups and live entertainment professionals.
  • Supervisory experience in the use, programming, and maintenance of static LED lighting fixtures, and rotary moving head fixtures.
  • Knowledge of MEWPs and knowledge of safe operations and \xe2\x80\x9cbest practices\xe2\x80\x9d thereof.
  • Proficiency in Vectorworks Spotlight and Lightwrite.
  • High understanding of reading and creating lighting plots, generating associated paperwork, and drafting event floor plans.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lighting design and concepts and demonstrated lighting design experience.
  • Programing knowledge and operation of ETC EOS family consoles and programming functions (LTP, HTP, Tracking, Cue Only, Marking, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with DMX and Net3 networked lighting systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of power and data signal flow.
  • Working knowledge of ETC Concert.
  • Experience with ETC Paradigm Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of circuiting.
  • Knowledge of 3 phase power systems.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
Criteria

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Serves as primary technician responsible for Hanging, Focusing, and Programming lighting equipment
  • Primary lighting designer for all internal college events and, as needed, external rentals/presentations
  • Supervises over-hire crew and academic students, ensuring best safety practices and operation during all lighting hang, focus, fixture repair, and event lighting programming in electrics shop, and live-event venues (Grand Theatre, Proscenium Theatre, and Black Box Theatre, etc.)
  • Transpose touring lighting plots and designs
  • Create in-house light plots in Vectorworks for live events, temporary lab installations, and repertory plots.
  • Creates, maintains and, as needed, updates house repertory plots and general multi-use stage setups.
  • Oversees all lighting inventory: generates lists (venue specific and center accumulated), logs unit-specific maintenance requests, and updates master inventory list with new equipment purchases.
  • Assess and conduct/coordinate in-house or external maintenance of center lighting equipment, including lighting networking, lighting fixtures, DMX peripherals, and lighting consoles.
  • Coordinates with external Lighting Designers, Artistic Directors, and other event-related personnel on determining lighting needs for each live event
  • Generates specific report paperwork (plot, instrument schedules, circuit hookups, cable plans, etc.) for all lighting installs
  • Assess and recommends electrics crew numbers and crew positions for all events, installations, strikes, and house repertory plot restores.
  • Assess and provide lighting power needs, including installation of 3 phase power distribution systems, if dictated by live event.
  • Provide additional support to other back-of-house/production team members (audio, video, staging, etc.) as necessary or as directed by management.
  • Advises management/CPAEM leadership on live-event related lighting projects, improvements, and purchases
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the use of sensory skills to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, students, and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of entertainment technology equipment as well as computers, printers/plotters, and general office equipment. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions are required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Must have the availability to work a flexible schedule, including some extended shifts beyond 8 hours, frequent evenings and weekends, when dictated by events support schedule.
  • Must be comfortable working from MEWPs and grid heights in excess of 60 feet
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  • As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  • A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview
