Your impact:
The technical editor for Car and Driver has several key responsibilities: performing instrumented testing on vehicles, generating specifications panels and charts, and helping to manage our testing protocols and database of test results. This role will write reviews and edit and review news for technical accuracy as well, according to ability. The ideal candidate has significant driving-school and/or racing experience and is comfortable pushing cars to their limits, is technically minded, and is up-to-date on all the latest happenings in the automotive world and can express that depth of knowledge in a way that can be widely understood. This position reports to the testing director.

What you\'ll do:

  • Test Vehicles
  • Ability to push vehicles to their limits to generate the best acceleration, braking, and cornering numbers a vehicle is capable of
  • Use various software to synthesize test results and store them in our database
  • Edit and/or Review Content for Technical Accuracy
  • Familiar with everything from tire technology, to connecting rods and prismatic battery cells
  • General knowledge about every subsystem on a vehicle (chassis, powertrain, body, etc.)
  • Endless desire to learn about new technology
  • Write Reviews
  • Knowledgeable about the entire automotive marketplace
  • Ability to evaluate a car and highlight strengths/weaknesses in everything from ride and handling to infotainment versus others in its segment
  • Generate Specification Panels and Comparison Test Charts
  • Adhere to C/D style and templates
  • Suggest modifications to adapt our templates for new technology, features, or vehicle types
Who you are:
  • A bachelor\'s or technical degree with significant hands-on experience working on cars
  • 3 to 4 years of post-grad experience working in a similar or relevant capacity
  • Driving school and/or racing experience; need to be comfortable pushing cars to their limits
  • Technically minded and up-to-date on what\'s happening in the automotive world, with the ability to express that depth of knowledge in a way that can be widely understood
  • Some writing experience
  • Experience with Racelogic VBOX hardware and software a plus
  • Extremely detail oriented
The base salary for this role is between $62,310 to $85,000 annually. The actual base pay offered is dependent upon many factors, such as: transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
