About This Position

The Staff Systems Engineer works within a team to design and develop new UAV systems while supporting the improvement and production of existing systems. The Staff Systems Engineer owns the development from conception through test and production. The Staff Systems Engineer is a professional expert who leads projects and mentors coworkers. This position is open to being a Hybrid-Remote role.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the definition of performance requirements, system/subsystem interfaces, and balancing decisions across all disciplines and subsystems.
  • Ensure the full design lifecycle is coordinated, with test definitions and practicality established early
  • Evaluate customer requirements and contracts, as well as internal business needs to translate to well defined systems.
  • Collaborate closely with all engineering disciplines (mechanical, aerospace, software, QA)
  • Participate in and lead design and peer reviews.
  • Maintain high standards quality within the team by adhering to good practices and habits of configuration control.
  • Process development and improvement.
  • Support production and test activities, ensuring they satisfy established or required tests.
  • Train and mentor engineers and other coworkers
  • Observe and assist engineering and production teams in resolving issues.
  • Communicate and escalate challenges to leadership in a productive way.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in engineering or similar
  • 7+ years of work experience in a unmanned aircraft or flight related field
  • Creating and interpreting design and test requirements, architecture diagrams, and verification documents
  • Delivery of system engineering products and documentation for US Government and DOD contracts
  • Successful execution of requirements-to-product design activities
  • Microsoft office products.
  • Requirements documentation and management
  • Test planning vs. requirements
  • Coordination across multi-discipline teams (e.g. mechanical, electrical, and software)
  • Coordination across multiple subsystems
  • Interpreting drawings, schematics, and other technical documents.
  • Ability to present information to a group.
  • Ability to generate detailed reports.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Project management and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability and experience presenting information to a group.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the industrial specifications and requirements (ISO, MIL, ASME, IPC, etc.)
  • Development of requirements and systems documentation for a DOD contract
  • Development of formal deliverables for DOD contracts
  • Development of UAV or flight systems
  • Hands on development, test, and troubleshooting
  • Creating and interpreting drawings, schematics, and other technical documents.
  • Integrating electrical, software, mechanical systems.
  • Quality inspections and improvements.
  • UAV or RC Plane operation
  • Embedded software development
  • Altium or similar PCB design software.
  • JIRA
  • 3D CAD Software. Solidworks or similar.
