SUSTAINING MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Based in Lexington, Kentucky

TRC seeks a full time Sustaining Mechanical Design Engineer in Lexington, KY for a leading manufacturer in the industrial sector. This role will support exciting new product development and designs. We are seeking an experienced engineer who can hit the ground running, deliver sustaining/VAVE projects, a critical thinker with the ability to innovate out-of-the-box solutions, and someone who can analyze and test designs. Position requires an on-site presence in Lexington.

Responsibilities

Provide strong knowledge related to engineering product simplification and product cost take-out, through evaluating new vendors, manufacturing methods, and commonizing platforms.
Assist in the improvement of current product designs through reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications, and supporting documents; work with other engineers and product designers.
Develop test procedures for new technology evaluations.
Provide technical options with cost analysis for evaluation by product managers.
Prepare detailed 3D models using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
Direct the generation of 2D engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
Define and document product specifications and requirements.
Analyze product designs using Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) techniques.
Construct and evaluate prototypes.
Conduct physical tests to develop design concepts and prototypes.
Prepare test plans for physical testing and confirm/validate designs.
Confirm designs are in compliance with relevant codes and standards; work with compliance engineers.
Responsible for researching and staying up-to-date on industry trends and competitive products.
Interface with Program Managers, Quality, and Manufacturing personnel as required to improve current products from concept to production.
Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
Interact with vendors and suppliers on the design of purchased components.
Work with minimal supervision on multiple projects, in a consensus-based team environment.

Requirements

Bachelor\'s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in sustaining, value engineering, product simplification, and cost take-out
Experience using CAD software (SolidWorks is a plus)
Ability to communicate effectively and prepare technical documents and reports
Out-of-the-box creative thinker with product design and development, material, hands-on, and continuous improvement experience
