The Sustaining Engineering Manager will lead a Team of dedicated engineers and mechanics responsible for the ongoing support, improvement, and lifecycle management of FilterWorks' existing product manufacturing operations. This position is critical for resolving production challenges, implementing cost-reduction strategies, and driving continuous quality improvements in our water system and filter product lines. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can balance technical expertise with strong management skills and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
Develop, Lead, Mentor, and Manage a Team to support all Engineering aspects of the existing FilterWorks product manufacturing lines. Collaborate and work with an extended Team including Operations, Quality and Management to develop and implement operational excellence initiatives.
Manufacturing Support:
As the primary Engineering point-of-contact for production operations, utilize and direct your Team to Maximize Uptime by providing timely and effective technical support to the manufacturing floor. Ensure complete and accurate engineering definitions, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and process and equipment specifications. Manage and execute projects focused on quality enhancement, cost reduction, product performance upgrades, preventative maintenance and component obsolescence mitigation.
Quality Assurance:
Collaborate with the Quality Team to perform root cause analysis for production and field failures. Drive the implementation of effective corrective actions through the manufacturing process.
Change Management:
Administer the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process, from initiation to implementation, ensuring efficient communication and accurate data across all Engineering and Quality systems.
Process Optimization:
Work with and support Quality to drive continuous improvement efforts using LEAN methodologies to enhance assembly efficiency, reduce waste, and improve operational consistency.
Documentation:
Maintain and refine engineering documentation, including technical specifications, work instructions, and test protocols.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments, including R&D, Operations, Supply Chain, and Customer Support, to ensure business goals are met.
Supplier Relations:
Support the Supply Chain team by evaluating and validating substitutes or alternate parts to mitigate risks related to supply and component end-of-life (EOL).
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or a related manufacturing technical field. Experience with plastics and medical device manufacturing is a plus.
7+ years of progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership or management capacity.
Proven experience in a sustaining or manufacturing support role, preferably within an electro-mechanical or consumer goods industry.
Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and statistical problem-solving techniques.
Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks) and proficiency in interpreting 2D technical drawings.
Demonstrated experience in managing engineering change processes (ECOs/ECNs).
Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
High mechanical aptitude with the ability to thrive in a hands-on, fast-paced setting and resolve complex problems with a bias for action.
