The Visitation Facilitator provides structured, supervised parenting time between parents and children involved with the Indiana Department of Child Services. This role ensures child safety while observing, documenting, and supporting healthy parent-child interaction in accordance with court orders, DCS service standards, and New Generational Blueprint policies.
Visitation Facilitators serve as neutral observers and coaches, modeling appropriate parenting behaviors while maintaining professional boundaries and prioritizing child well-being.
Core Responsibilities
Supervise parent-child visits in approved settings
Ensure child safety at all times during visits
Review visitation plans and court orders prior to sessions
Observe and document parent-child interactions objectively
Model and coach nurturing parenting behaviors
Redirect inappropriate or unsafe behaviors
Terminate visits immediately if safety thresholds are violated
Communicate concerns promptly to supervisors and DCS
Complete detailed visitation notes within 24 hours
Maintain neutrality and professional boundaries
Minimum Qualifications (DCS-Aligned)
High school diploma or GED required
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in human services, education, psychology, social work, or a related field preferred
Experience working with children, families, or in supervised settings
Ability to remain calm, objective, and professional in high-stress environments
Preferred Experience
One (1) or more years of experience in:
- Supervised visitation
- Child welfare or family services
- Youth programs or mentoring
Familiarity with DCS cases, CHINS processes, or court-ordered services
Experience observing and documenting behavior objectively
Required Credentials & Clearances
Valid driver's license
Reliable transportation
Active auto insurance
Ability to pass CPS/CPI background check
Fingerprinting clearance (as required by DCS)
CPR/First Aid certification
Car Seat Safety training (required if transporting children)
