Description: The Summer Link Visual Arts Teacher will design and teach arts classes to the 6th and 7th grade cohorts during the first two weeks of Summer Link (July 5-14). The classes meet during the afternoon (12:45-3:00) each day, and they should culminate in final projects and/or presentations that the students share with an audience on Friday, July 14. The arts classes will also have collaboration opportunities with the Leadership and Outdoors classes, which also meet during the afternoons during those two weeks. Integral to the curriculum is , which all Summer Link teachers utilize as a guide for their curriculum.

Looking Forward to 2024 and Beyond: Although the contract is for one year, the hope is that teacher will continue to work with the program beyond the first year. Summer Link will add a grade level each summer, and our hope is that the teachers in 2023 will return to work with the same cohort in Summer 2024 (and beyond).

Responsibilities

Leading into the summer:

\xc2\xb7 Create the curriculum for the course. The teacher can use the 2021 and 2022 curriculums as guides for design work and collaborate with teachers in Overlake\'s arts department to support this process.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborate with Summer Link Director and Summer Link teachers to ensure a successful launch to the program.

\xc2\xb7 Optional: attend the spring orientation (for all Summer Link families) and half-day retreat (for staff).

July 5-14:

\xc2\xb7 Teach the 6th grade and 7th grade Arts classes.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborate with the Program Director, teachers, and advisors to create a cohesive, high-quality experience for students and families.

\xc2\xb7 Write a summary of each week\'s highlights to share with families at the end of each week.

\xc2\xb7 Complete curriculum documentation.

Schedule, Hours, and Pay:

*The visual arts classes will run from July 5-14, 2023.

*Contracted time on campus is from 12:30-3:15 pm each day. Requirements:

\xc2\xb7 Think creatively about curriculum and are passionate about designing a program that challenges and excites middle school students. Ideally this person enjoys curriculum design and is eager to create a new program that will have a lasting impact on students, both inside and outside the classroom.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate strong content knowledge in their subject area. Having a rich background in the subject-area(s), particularly around the current challenges that students face due to COVID-19, is particularly important. In addition, we are looking for teachers who can ground curricular experiences in a program\'s mission and core values.

\xc2\xb7 Care deeply about the program\'s mission and have experience working in a variety of school settings. Having worked in a public school is ideal. We are looking for teachers who recognize the summer can be a great opportunity to open doors for students who don\'t often have doors opened for them.
