Position Summary: The Photo Studio Manager is responsible for the administrative control of SC Studios operation including scheduling, establishing, and adhering to studio production procedures, personnel management, client liaison, engagement of freelancers, estimates, budgets, billing as well as equipment purchasing and maintenance. Our Studio Manager oversees the daily operations and provision of facilities of the studio which includes being open for business hours, safety for employees and guests, and securing the facility. We welcome creative, consistent, smarty-pants folks with a can-do attitude. Key Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

  • Understands Straub Collaborative (Company) core business, the relevance and interaction of other roles within the Company and the impact of your decisions on the overall operation of the company. This individual represents the best interests of the Company and its people.
  • Possess a mastery of high-volume studio photography and video with an emphasis on workflow systems and processes. Skills should include exceptional knowledge of studio strobe and continuous lighting, current industry standard photography and video cameras, lenses and utilization of professional capture and editing software.
  • Effectively communicates individual studio business status and adherence to client delivery specifications, and areas where improvement is needed in order to meet client obligations.
  • Expert knowledge of e-commerce or high-volume photography workflow processes including knowledge of merchandise receipts, storage, equipment set-up, lighting, set builds, merchandise preparation, on-set best practices in high-volume photography capture, and knowledge of post-production.
  • Operates against studio annual budget. This includes providing production estimates to the project manager and business development teams. Efficient production staffing against budget goals, profit and loss evaluation summaries, expenses, estimate accuracy, and invoices prepared by project managers.
  • Collaborate with other members of staff in order to resolve any queries or conflicts in order to achieve a balance between production requirements and service excellence.
Position Duties:
  • Schedules sets and staff to achieve client goals for production.
  • Formulates production plans utilizing studio space and gear to effectively meet production objectives. Ensures all sets are ready according to the project specifications before production
  • Books appropriate levels of freelance staff and external services so they are utilized as efficiently and effectively as possible. The expectation is managing our business traffic to achieve a balance between profitability, production requirements, service excellence, and staff welfare.
  • Ensures that all staff are kept informed of the studio schedules including last-minute changes and any advance information, to discuss any queries as appropriate.
  • Ensures all full-time and temporary staff are trained in established studio workflow procedures for beginning of the day start-up, set and lighting daily calibration, capture, file movement, storage and end of day warp.
  • Trains all staff and has an awareness of Health & Safety policies and practices to ensure studio safety of all personnel within the facilities.
  • Resolves production scheduling conflicts.
  • Collaborate with other members of staff to resolve any queries or conflicts to achieve a balance between production requirements and service excellence.
  • Undertakes any other relevant administrative tasks/projects to ensure the smooth running of the facility. This could include but is not limited to scheduling any building maintenance needs (janitorial, structural, security, food/beverage, technology) or equipment maintenance (repairs, quotes, rental, replacement). If budget approval is required, securing appropriate authorization and documentation is expected.
  • Ensures weekly that all studio invoices, timecard, paid time off requests, expense receipts, Independent Contractor, personnel changes, contracts, and relevant documentation are processed and shared with the relevant departments of HR and Finance.
  • Familiar with existing client contract services and project status to the level that the studio manager can provide guidance on account status and support on staff questions as needed. t.
  • Understands the market nuances: working requirements, freelance resources, and industry expectations while creating a network of freelance talent.
  • When needed supports and or undertakes any other relevant administrative tasks/projects to ensure the smooth running of the facility. This could include but is not limited to planning equipment movement, set builds, equipment maintenance, equipment rentals, technology upgrades, replacements and performing photography and video capture on-set as needed
  • Creates clear guidelines, policies and guidance to Ensures that all staff, temp staff, and talent are informed of changing processes and SOP\'s.
  • Communicates in a respectful manner to all team members in alignment with Straub\'s Mission/Vision/Values and DEI statement.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • This position will supervise Photographers, Digital Technicians, Merchandising Manager, Stylists, Image Generalists, Studio Assistant, Receptionist including hiring, training, coaching and performance management
  • and development.
  • Prepares and presents annual performance evaluations and goal setting and performance KPIs.
  • Implements a management style that compliments the productive, collaborative atmosphere of the Company.
Knowledge and Experience:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree and/or specialty certificate; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires 5+ plus years of professional ecommerce and or high-volume photography and video experience that should include capturing and directing photography or videography production.
  • 3+ plus years of experience managing a team of at least five creative production staff with demonstrated leadership skills in people development, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedules while still meeting accountabilities and essential functions.
  • Experience with agency production and inventory management is required.
  • Position requires mastery knowledge of industry standard software programs such as Capture One Pro. Adobe Photoshop, Bridge and other Adobe photo and video editing tools as required.
  • Position requires specialized computer skills including daily use of database management tools. Intermediate experience using MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word). Experience using MAC operating system.

  • Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull, and carry materials weighing a maximum of 30 lbs.
  • Travel requirements may be up to 20% of the time to maintain office operations in NYC (errands/supplies).
  • And may require the ability to travel outside of your state of residence to Straub\'s other office locations.
