Preferred Education/Experience


Prior experience in customer service, retail, call center, or office/administrative work Coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field Familiarity with basic tax concepts (such as W-2s, refunds, and deductions), even from a personal finance or introductory class Experience working with spreadsheets or basic data entry (Excel, Google Sheets, etc.) Experience using multi line phones, appointment scheduling tools, or CRM-style systems Comfort speaking with a wide range of people, including families, small business owners, and first time tax clients Ability to stay calm, organized, and solution focused when the office is busy or clients are anxious Demonstrated reliability through previous jobs, campus leadership roles, or volunteer work Interest in careers related to tax, accounting, financial services, entrepreneurship, or client facing professional roles Bilingual or multilingual skills (especially Spanish/English)

You must be a current UK student to apply for this position. This position is located off campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.





We are seeking Tax Preparation & Client Experience Interns for the upcoming tax season. This internship is ideal for students who want to:


Learn how tax preparation actually works in the real world Provide top tier customer service to clients Build professional experience in a busy, client facing office You will split your time between assisting with tax preparation and delivering an excellent client experience at the front desk, over the phone, and during appointments.





Internship start: In person training in our Lexington, KY office during winter break, followed by part time, onsite hours during the spring semester and peak tax season.





Key Responsibilities :




Tax Preparation Support



Assist in preparing accurate federal and state income tax returns using our software and IRS guidelines Gather, organize, and review client documents for completeness and accuracy Enter data into tax software with strong attention to detail Help follow up with clients on missing or additional information



Client Experience and Customer Service



Greet every client by name and create a welcoming, professional first impression Check clients in, explain the intake process, and answer basic questions about appointments Communicate clearly about wait times, next steps, and what documents are needed Answer phone calls and messages in a friendly and professional manner Help clients feel comfortable and confident by using simple, easy to understand language instead of "tax talk" Protect client confidentiality while handling personal and financial information






Office and Operations Support



Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front office environment Scan, upload, and file client documents following office procedures Assist with scheduling, confirming, and updating client appointments Support office marketing activities like sharing referral cards, promoting offers, or helping with signage Participate in team projects that improve office efficiency and client experience



Minimum Requirements



To be considered for this internship, you must: Be currently enrolled in a college or university Be available for in person training in Lexington during winter break Be able to work onsite in Lexington during tax season on a part time schedule Have reliable transportation to and from the office Be comfortable using a computer and ready to learn multiple software systems Be able to handle confidential client information with professionalism and discretion Be willing to work some evenings and weekends during peak tax season Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing

Customer service skills Friendly, patient, and professional with clients in person and over the phone Active listening and the ability to ask good follow up questions Ability to stay calm and polite when the office is busy






Technical and office skills



Basic computer skills, including typing, email, and navigation of new software Comfortable working with numbers and basic math Strong attention to detail when entering or reviewing information



Professional skills



Time management and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once Reliability and consistent follow through on assigned tasks Willingness to take feedback, learn quickly, and ask questions when unsure



Nice to have (but not required):



Prior experience in customer service, retail, office, or call center work Coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field Bilingual Spanish and English


Skills / Knowledge / Abilities


Strong customer service skills, including the ability to greet clients warmly, listen carefully, and respond in a friendly and professional manner in person and over the phone Clear verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to explain basic processes in simple, easy to understand terms Basic math skills and comfort working with numbers, forms, and financial information Computer literacy, including typing, using email, navigating web based software, and working with scanned or uploaded documents Ability to learn new software systems quickly by following step by step instructions Strong attention to detail and accuracy when entering data and reviewing client information Good organization and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment Ability to follow established office procedures and checklists consistently Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive client information Professional attitude and appearance, with the ability to represent the company positively to clients and teammates Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and actively learn throughout the training and tax season Reliable transportation and the ability to report to the Lexington office on time for winter break training and scheduled shifts Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and move around the office as needed, with reasonable accommodations if required
