Pay Range: $18-$20/hour (based on experience)

Position Summary
The Street Outreach plays a critical frontline role in BeHeard's mission to meet neighbors experiencing homelessness where they are with compassion, dignity, and real solutions. This position focuses on responding to community outreach requests through BeHeard's online system and building relationships with individuals in encampments, neighborhoods, and business areas to connect them with immediate services such as shelter, hygiene, meals, and case management.
This is a seasonal position through March 10th, supporting BeHeard's winter shelter operations by serving as the bridge between the streets and available resources.
Core Responsibilities
Monitor & Respond to Outreach Requests:
Regularly check BeHeard's online Outreach Request Form submissions from businesses, residents, and partner organizations.
Prioritize and respond promptly (within 24 hours when possible) to connect with individuals in need.
Engagement & Relationship Building
Conduct daily street outreach across Tulsa's high-need areas.
Approach individuals with dignity, empathy, and trauma-informed care.
Build trusting relationships that lead to shelter access and long-term stability.
Shelter Coordination:
Collaborate with BeHeard's Shelter Team to identify available beds and coordinate transportation when needed.
Track individuals connected to the shelter and follow up on outcomes.
Community & Business Support:
Visit and educate local businesses and community members on homelessness response, prevention, and available resources.
Provide reassurance, de-escalation, and support to neighborhoods seeking help.
Documentation & Data
Log all outreach interactions, outcomes, and follow-ups in the BeHeard app or approved data system.
Submit daily reports summarizing contacts made, services provided, and next steps.
Collaboration & Coordination:
Work closely with Creoks, Housing Solutions, and other local partners to ensure unified response efforts.
Attend outreach team meetings and debriefs to improve response quality.
Safety & Accountability:
Follow all BeHeard safety policies, including communication protocols during off-site outreach.
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality with all guests.
Expectations
Respond to requests within designated response timeframes.
Uphold BeHeard's standards of radical hospitality, safety, and respect in every interaction.
Operate with flexibility weather conditions, community needs, and city responses may shift daily.
Represent BeHeard positively to the public, partner agencies, and the business community.
Work collaboratively with other outreach and shelter staff to ensure no one falls through the cracks.
Qualifications
Experience in outreach, social services, public safety, or ministry preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to connect with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to remain calm and solution-focused in high-stress or unpredictable environments.
Understanding of trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and motivational interviewing.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Reliable transportation and flexible schedule (evenings/weekends).
Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, and driving throughout the day.
Regular exposure to outdoor conditions (heat, cold, rain).
Ability to lift and carry outreach supplies and materials.
