A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A STREETS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

As a Streets Maintenance Technician, you spend your assisting in cleaning, repairing and painting curb markings in the downtown area. Your work typically is to trim branches on city's right-of-way and remove fallen trees and large debris from roadway as necessary. Your job is essential to the city, and you often assist in the setup of traffic control for special events. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise in the city. This can include performing as a flagman in construction zones as required. When you are not out in the city, you generally participate in assisting with assisting in an accident or a heavy storm and clean storm inlets. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed. The city needs someone like you with assisting in the setup of traffic control for special events, emergencies and weather response and you finding genuine enjoyment in what you do!

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A STREETS MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Required Education: High school diploma, GED or equivalency + Education Preference: Community college, vocational, business, technical, or correspondence school certifications are likely sources.
+ Educational Substitute: Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
No experience required. + Experience Preference: One (1) year of experience performing tasks closely related to job description.
Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
