Position Summary:
Responsible for the collection, cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and inventory of dental instruments and equipment in accordance with University, State, and Federal OSHA standards. Trains clinical staff, monitors sterilization processes, maintains compliance documentation, assists with clinical support duties, and ensures operational readiness of equipment and supplies within dental clinics.
Essential Functions:
Participate in the collection and distribution of both dirty and clean instruments to and from the dental clinics, following the protocol established by University, State, and Federal OSHA standards.
Perform the proper cleaning and sterilization of dental instruments and equipment used in the CODM clinics
Provide training to Clinical Staff working in the Sterilization area.
Monitor supply inventory in Sterilization, process requests for material orders and/or new items, receive incoming orders, process new supplies and maintain SDS for all applicable inventory.
Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly Sterilization testing in accordance with University, State, and Federal OSHA standards. Maintain records and log of all testing performed in the Sterilization unit.
Monitor all sterilization and mechanical equipment to ensure required sterilization standards are being met.
Work with the Director of Clinical Operations in the event of any malfunctioning equipment so repairs can be scheduled in a timely fashion.
Perform the required monitoring of cleaning and sterilization equipment in the sterilization center, assuring the proper sterilization of the dental instruments and equipment used in the CODM clinic.
Check-In/Out instruments and equipment to faculty, residents, and CODM personnel using the A-Star tracking system.
Contribute to the development and improvement of the Sterilization Inventory System.
When assisting in the patient care clinic, adhere to infection control guidelines when dispensing instruments, supplies and equipment, during and upon completion of each dental treatment.
Assist with disinfection and cleaning dental treatment rooms and contaminated trays; disinfect and sterilize instruments, equipment, and dental hand pieces; handle and dispose of sharps and hazardous materials according to established University, State, and federal OSHA standards.
Perform Dental Assistant duties when needed, including the exposure of diagnostic dental radiographs when appropriately trained and certified, utilizing either standard or digital radiology equipment when needed.
Set up dental treatment trays and instruments in dental clinic operatories and make-ready's.
Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
Reliable and timely with the expectation of 40+hours per week on site.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent education
Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
