Job Description

We have an immediate opening for a Sterile Processing Assistant. We are a veterinary hospital specializing in orthopedic surgery and are looking for someone with experience in sterile processing to join our team. We are a 3 Surgeon practice that performs a variety of orthopedic procedures from day to day. We utilize both steam and ETO sterilization equipment. Someone with knowledge of orthopedic instrumentation and implants is preferred, but not required. Summary of Duties:

• Clean and sterilize tools prior to use in surgery or treatment areas.
• Pack and prepare surgical packs for surgery to meet the OR schedule.
• Perform regular equipment maintenance and troubleshoot issues that may arise.
• Become knowledgeable about inventory and reorder points for implants and sterilization supplies
• Knowledge of proper sterilization techniques and circumstances that could compromise sterility of equipment (storage techniques, wet packs, proper wrapping, etc).
• Keep all equipment in proper working order and send out equipment that is in need of repair.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and work quickly and independently.

A large part of this position involves critical thinking and planning. The following tasks are also responsibilities of this position:

• Rounding with the Surgeons and the Lead Anesthesia Technician about the following surgical day to determine procedure order based on equipment availability and potential turn over times.
• Be able to make "in the moment" decisions regarding tools in the event that a pack fails a sterilization cycle, is dropped, etc (what can be pulled instead of that pack to get the job done, etc.)
• Learn the basics of our orthopedic procedures and which equipment is used for each one in order to problem solve.
• Help in turning over ORs, if time allows.
